Please DO NOT use Chromebook to charge phone! Please DO NOT use Chromebook to charge phone!

zoom_out_map
Using your Chromebook as a charger for your phone can result in severe consequences:

1. Potential Damage: Charging your phone through your Chromebook can cause damage to both devices, leading to costly repairs or replacements.

2. Warranty Void: This action voids the manufacturer's warranty for your Chromebook, leaving you without its protection against unforeseen issues.

3. Optional District Insurance Void: It also voids the district insurance coverage for your Chromebook, which means you'll be responsible for any future damages or losses.

This cautionary notice comes in response to an increase in the number of student devices being turned in due to these issues. We want to ensure the longevity and functionality of your Chromebooks and, by extension, your learning experience.

2nd/4th Grade CogAT/Iowa Testing Notification 2nd/4th Grade CogAT/Iowa Testing Notification

September 18, 2023

Dear Parents/Guardians,

The State of Ohio requires all public school districts (city, local, and exempted village) to provide whole-grade screenings for the purposes of gifted identification in the areas of superior cognitive ability, specific academic ability reading/writing, specific academic ability mathematics, and creative thinking ability once during the K-2 grade band and once again during the 3-6 grade band. Districts must use assessments approved for gifted identification in order to meet this requirement. Your child will be taking these national standardized tests to gain information about his/her abilities in the classroom during the period of October 2 through October 16, 2023. You may contact your child’s principal for specific testing dates.

Second and fourth grade students will be taking the Cognitive Abilities Test or CogAT. This test is used to measure overall cognitive and reasoning abilities that can guide classroom and instruction planning efforts based on students’ individual ability levels. The CogAT also provides a measure of cognitive ability that can identify students who meet the State’s definition of Superior Cognitive ability which is a score of 128 or higher.

Additionally, students in grades two and four will take the Iowa Assessments. The primary purpose of this test is for instructional development so teachers can identify where the skills of individual students are most and least developed and adapt curriculum and instruction accordingly. The Iowa will measure content-specific skills in the areas of reading and math and also provides a measure of academic ability that can identify students who meet the State’s definition of superior specific academic ability, scoring in the 95%ile or higher.

These are not tests that students can study for nor should they be nervous to take them. They will not count as a grade and will be used to better assist teachers in meeting the needs of students. After the results are returned to the District, each student/family will receive a copy of the scores with a report highlighting the student's strengths and areas on which to continue to build.

Thank you for your continued assistance and dedication to your child’s education. If you have any questions, please contact the building principal or Erin Green, Director of Curriculum.

Sincerely,

Erin Green, Director of Curriculum

Calling all Elementary Artists! PTA Council Reflections is starting a Reflections Club for all elementary students that will be meeting once a month.

What is Reflections? It is a program put on by the State and National PTA that provides students an opportunity for recognition and access to the arts which boosts student confidence and success in the arts and in life. Those categories are Film Making, Choreography/Dance, Visual Arts, Music Composition, and Literature.

This Elementary Reflections Club will meet September 18th, October 16th, and November 13th and 27th at the Strongsville Public Library, with the goal of giving students a chance to explore the art categories they can compete in.
