Celebrating Teacher (and staff) Appreciation Week! Celebrating Teacher (and staff) Appreciation Week!

Hello, RVS Families!

This week, we are so excited to lift up and celebrate the many amazing adults in our school community who do so much for our students (and, for each other). Here at RVS, we are lucky to have so many folks with diverse talents and interests to share with our kids. I can't wait to sing their praises from the rooftops all week long, and I hope you'll join us! Our PTNO has put together a fabulous week for our staff, and we invite our students to join in, too. Here are some ideas from the flyer sent home:

Tuesday: Share a fun or funny memory with your teacher - if you'd like, write it down!

Wednesday: Tell your teacher a joke or funny story

Thursday: Write a name poem for your teacher

Friday: Make a card for your teachers!

Families, we always love to hear from you! If there is someone at school who you appreciate, this is a great week to send them a note or an email.

Thanks for your support!

Shannon

Garden Volunteer Work Day: This Saturday, from 9-12! Garden Volunteer Work Day: This Saturday, from 9-12!

zoom_out_map

Please come on down to RVS this Saturday morning to help us prep our gardens for the year, and to plant seven new apple trees from Ember Hill Farm! We are excited to create what will become a new shaded space on our playground, and to get our raised beds ready for flowers, herbs, and gourds this summer. While the school may not be in operation past June, we still anticipate that the community will utilize this space for community flowers and produce, and as a play space, so we appreciate your help in getting it ready.

What to bring?

We could use the addition of any tools you can bring for the day - shovels, in particular, will be very helpful as we have a number of holes to dig for our new trees. Kids are welcome to attend, but must be supervised by parents. Please leave pets at home.

How can I help?

We will have beds to weed, compost to distribute, our front pollinator garden is in need of a good cleanup, and trees to plant.

Other Info

We will have snacks and drinks ready for the morning, and the building will be open for bathroom use. Even if you can't join for the entire time, we would love to see you there for any amount of time you can help!

Thank you, and we hope to see you there!

RVS Important to Remember: RVS Important to Remember:

  • Parent chaperone opportunities for spring field trips will be sent out next week: if you are not yet registered as a Level 3 Volunteer with our district, you will need to do this before coming on a field trip. Please note that this takes time to process, so be sure to get this process started as soon as possible if you'd like to be able to attend any of our field trips. You can find all of the information you need about volunteering here.
  • The UES Family Fitness Night is scheduled for this Wednesday, May 8th, from 5:30 - 7PM. All families from UES and RVS are welcome to attend to enjoy obstacle courses, fitness classes, and healthy snacks at UES!
  • We have an early release day on Monday, May 20th at 12:00. Students who attend Bridges on Mondays can attend the extended session, which will be a field trip.

End of the Year Events: What's coming up? End of the Year Events: What's coming up?

We have a very busy end of the year planned, with local events and plenty of fun field trips! We will share opportunities for chaperoning and volunteering as these events get closer - we will certainly have lots of opportunities for families to join in.

  • Friday, May 24th, we have our final retreat for 4th graders at MSMS. We will be gone for the morning and will visit a Maker Faire and have our final session with Up for Learning!
  • Friday, May 31st, we have a Forest Friday lunch celebration at the D'Amico's house, featuring a BBQ lunch and bagpipe/fiddle players.
  • Wednesday, June 5th, we will travel to UES to join classes in field day. This is a full day event.
  • **NEW - Tuesday, June 11th, we will take a ride on the Amtrak "Vermonter" from Montpelier to Randolph, touring both Northfield and Roxbury on the rails! Our bus will meet us in Randolph, where we are planning to have a picnic lunch after the ride. Students should be back at RVS by 12:30.
  • Wednesday, June 12th is our RVS field day - close to a full day event! Rain date is 6/17.
  • Thursday, June 13th will be a multi-layered field trip: we are all headed to Shelburne. Grades 3-4 will hop off at the Shelburne Museum. Grades K-2 will continue over to Shelburne Farms. This is a full-day field trip.
  • Friday, June 14th we will have a full-day trip to the Montshire Museum (we know, very close to our other trip - unfortunately, unavoidable!).
  • Wednesday, June 19th will be our RVS Graduation Event from 5:30 - 6:30 PM. ALL students will be "graduating" this year, so all families are encouraged to attend! More details coming soon on this event.
  • Wednesday, June 19th is the last day of school for kindergarten students.
  • Thursday, June 20th is a half day, and grades 1-4 will be at UES. All students will "step up" to their new classes, and fourth graders will go to MSMS after the graduation parade. We will return to RVS for a 12:00 dismissal. This is the last day of school for grades 1-4.

We will continue to update this list as other events are added. We do realize that the end of the year is a busy time for families: if there is anything we can answer questions about, don't hesitate to reach out to shannonm@mpsvt.org.
