Hello, Hobby Families!
Hello Hobby Families!
I hope everyone enjoyed our mini fall break and had an opportunity to relax and recharge! This was a new addition to our district calendar this year, and today provided our teachers with valuable time to plan for the remainder of the semester, prepare engaging learning experiences, and recharge their batteries. Although we have a short week ahead, we have several exciting activities planned for our Hobby community!
Fall Into Learning – Wednesday, 6:30–8:00 PM
Tomorrow evening, we will host our annual Fall Into Learning event! This is one of our favorite opportunities to bring families together for an evening of fun, hands-on learning. Our teachers have prepared 25 engaging activities for students and families to enjoy together. There will be something for everyone, and we hope you can join us. We even have nachos!
Before the event, from 6:15–6:30 PM, I will share information about the upcoming NISD Bond and VATRE. This will be an informational session, and representatives from the NISD Bond Committee will be available to answer questions and provide clarification. Our goal is to ensure families have access to the information they need to make an informed decision.
First Nine Weeks Report Cards
It's hard to believe we have already completed our first nine weeks of school! Report cards will be sent home with students no later than next Monday. We are hopeful that the process will be completed early enough to send them home this Friday. In the meantime, you can always access your student's grades through the Home Access Center (HAC) parent portal.
Hobby Hangout – This Friday!
Last, but definitely not least, our Hobby Hangout has been rescheduled for this Friday!
Hobby Hangout is a great opportunity for students to spend time with friends, sing karaoke, play board games, enjoy concessions, and simply have fun together!
What makes these events even better is that every dollar raised goes right back to our students! Funds from our Hangouts help support attendance incentives, A/B Honor Roll celebrations, student store supplies, and our end-of-year field days. When students participate, they are also helping us create more opportunities to recognize and celebrate their accomplishments throughout the year.
Thank you for your continued support of Hobby Middle School! We have so much to celebrate, and it is the partnership between our families, students, and staff that makes Hobby such a special place. We look forward to a wonderful week of learning, family engagement, and fun.
I hope to see many of you tomorrow evening at Fall Into Learning!
Go Hawks! 💜💛
As always, your Proud Principal,
Greg Dylla

October is Bullying Prevention Month!
At Hobby, we’re committed to creating a safe and respectful environment for all students. Parents can help by talking with their child about the difference between bullying, teasing, and conflict: teasing is playful when both kids are laughing, conflict is a disagreement that can be resolved, but bullying is repeated, one-sided, and meant to hurt or control. If your child experiences or witnesses bullying, encourage them to tell a trusted adult right away.
A and AB Honor roll celebration
We will have our first A and AB Honor roll celebration on Oct 16, 2026 to celebrate our students.
Digital Citizenship Week 2026
October 19 –23 is Digital Citizenship Week! This week, we’re reinforcing with students how to be safe, smart, and kind online. Parents can help by starting conversations at home about using social media responsibly, thinking before posting, and treating others online with the same respect they show in person. Together, we can help our students become thoughtful digital citizens.
Classroom Guidance
Our next round of classroom guidance visits will be on Personal Health & Safety. The lessons presented will be the district required “Vape Free NISD” lessons for all grade levels. All of our Hawks will learn the facts regarding the dangers of vaping and we will focus on healthy life choices. Specifically by grade level we will introduce the following:
6th grade students
will learn how their brain is undergoing significant development, and that the introduction of nicotine can have serious, lasting consequences.
7th grade students
will learn about the effects of nicotine on the developing teenage brain, the dangerous chemicals found in vape products, and the serious consequences of being in possession of vape products at school.
8th grade students
will understand the calculated and deceptive nature of the tobacco and e-cigarette industry's marketing and learn how to build strong refusal skills.
-We are excited to partner with you to support your student's success throughout the year. Please reach out to us with any student needs/concerns- we are here to support our Hobby Hawks!

📚 Celebrating Freedom to Read
I am happy to see our teachers and students exercising their right to freedom to read! This week, we are encouraging students to explore books, discover different perspectives, and make reading choices that spark their curiosity.
A Reminder About Reading Choices
Our library serves students in grades 6–8 with a variety of interests and maturity levels. Families guide decisions about what is appropriate for their own child. Please talk with your student about your reading expectations, and reach out to me if you would like help finding books that fit their interests and your family’s preferences.
🛍️ Book Fair Begins October 16!
Help your student plan ahead and start saving! Our goal is to raise more than $4,000 to support our library, and every purchase helps.
This year’s fair is penny-free, so cash totals will be rounded up. Card and eWallet payments are recommended for exact totals. Apple Pay will be accepted in the mornings. Thank you for supporting our readers and our library!

Dress Code: Dress for Success!
Dress Code: Dress for Success School staff recognizes that parents bear the primary responsibility for setting standards for their children’s dress and grooming. However, because of health and safety factors, the influence of dress and grooming on students’ attitude and behavior, and because of the need to prevent disruptive influences and preserve the academic environment of the school, student dress and grooming are appropriate concerns of teachers and administrators. The district’s dress code is implemented (Section D); therefore, students will be expected to follow the guidelines set forth by the district. Dress code standards are extended to extra-curricular activities held on the campus. In an effort to promote a safe and positive school environment which is conducive to learning, students should wear appropriate clothing that will not cause disruptions in learning or safety. Inappropriate, indecent, suggestive or distracting clothing will not be allowed. *Final determination of acceptable dress code and grooming rests with the Principal or his/her designees.
Please Note
Part of supporting our students’ academic and social growth involves maintaining a disruption-free learning space. With that in mind, we want to gently remind our community about our campus dress code expectations—specifically regarding student hairstyles.
Starting this term, we will be fully aligning our campus practices with our NISD dress code policy:
Expectation: Hair must be neat, clean, and kept in a way that does not cause a distraction to the teaching and learning environment.
