August 2024
Some things to think about before school starts!
Welcome Back - First Day of School is August 26th (Half Day)
Students will be able to receive their schedules after parents complete a few Annual Renewal processes. This annual renew process is not a new process to the district. This has been done district wide for several years and is completed through your ParentVue. Completing this process allows us to ensure that we have the most up-to-date information on all students, including emergency contact information. The online renewal process will be available beginning Monday, August 5th. You will be receiving a notice when the registration/renewal process is open and ready for completion. Once the renewal is completed, your student will be able to see their schedules in their StudentVue.
Welcome Mr. Marks
I hope this newsletter finds you well and enjoying the summer break with your children. As we prepare for the upcoming school year, I'm pleased to introduce you to a new member of our administrative team, Mr. Brandon Marks, our new assistant principal. Brandon comes to us from The Montrose Community School District where he was an English Language Arts teacher for the past five years. Brandon brings a wealth of knowledge and a commitment to support the success and well-being of every student at Kearsley High School. I'm confident that his expertise and dedication will greatly benefit the Kearsley Community.
Please join me in welcoming Mr. Marks to KHS. I look forward to introducing him at many of our upcoming events. The first event is "Freshmen and New Student Orientation '' on August 19th @ 7:00p.m.
Backpacks and Cellphones!
This is just a reminder parents that we implemented a NO backpack in the classroom policy last year! This worked out really well. Student backpacks need to be placed in their lockers once they arrive in the mornings prior to first period. This helps with overcrowding in the hallways and also provides more room within the classrooms so that staff can move around more freely without tripping over backpacks in the aisle-ways.
Students will also be putting their cellphones in their lockers at the beginning of the day as-well. They can check their phones during passing times and carry them during their lunch periods. At all other times, they must remain in their lockers.
Freshman and New Student Orientation Night! August 19th @ 7:00 pm
On Monday, August 19th, at 7:00 p.m. KHS will have orientation for our Freshman and all "New High School" students to the district. At this meeting in the auditorium, the high school administration team will have about an hour introduction to the high school. We will cover the Code of Conduct, discuss the EDP process using Xello, and talk to the Freshman students about the high school expectations that we have for them.
It's a great opportunity for parents to meet the high school administrators and ask question about scheduling, after school activities, or just general questions and concerns.
We really want to see all new students and Freshman at this event. Please mark this date in your calendar.
Building Schedule
Below you will find the link to our hourly schedule and school calendar for the High School. We do have bells that indicate the beginning and ending of each period, as well as a one-minute warning bell. These schedules can also be found on our website @ https://www.kearsleyschools.org/page/daily-schedule

Attendance matters
Attendance Policy - TARDIES COUNT!
Research shows that attendance matters. If students are at school regularly, the research shows that they will do better in school. Please be aware of the policy here at KHS.
- Students are allowed nine (9) absences per semester, excused or unexcused. Should a student reach ten (10) or eleven (11) absences in a class, he or she will be required to attend one or both of the Saturday School sessions scheduled late in the semester where students make up missed hours. The exception to this rule would be...absences related to medical issues, funerals and court appearances. Please let the attendance office know when your child will be absent for such circumstances and they will be recorded properly.
- If a student fails to “lower” his or her absence total to 9, the student will be required to earn a minimum of a “C+” on his or her final exams to have his/her grade calculated for the semester. If the student does not attain a “C+” grade on the final exam, the student will receive a “WF” (Withdraw Failing) for the course and not receive credit.
- Due in part to the state course content expectations, Kearsley High School has altered its attendance policy to help improve upon student attendance. Multiple tardies will count in the overall attendance count. Every three tardies that are accumulated in any one class will be converted into an absence. This tardy will appear as an ABT on the attendance recorded found in both StudentVue and ParentVue.
- Tardies count in the overall attendance record – 3 tardies = 1 ABT.
DANCE POLICY
The attendance policy, in conjunction with the Dance Policy, will help students improve upon their attendance. The Dance Policy states that students who go over their allowed absences (9) or receive a level 5 discipline referral or higher, will not be allowed to attend any high school dance during the next semester at Kearsley High School. Other high schools in the county have implemented similar policies with great results.
Parking and Construction
With all of the construction still taking place this coming school year, the south end of the high school, near the pool/tennis courts will continue to be closed to parents, students and staff parking. Please continue to use the north end student lots for student drop off and pick-up each day. REMEMBER, the front loop is for busses only. Parents should not use the loop in front of the main office between the times of 7:00-7:30 am and 2:00-2:30 pm. for student safety. Students who park in the north "students lot" will need to purchase a parking permit from the main office at the cost of $30.00 per year.
