Restorative Corner
Cold Weather, Warm Hearts: Restorative Tips for Home
Dear Families,
As the winter chill keeps our students indoors more often, we know that "cabin fever" can sometimes lead to extra friction at home. When children are cooped up, small disagreements over toys, screens, or personal space can escalate quickly.
At school, we use Restorative Practices to help students move from conflict to connection. These aren’t just school tools—they work wonders at home, too! Instead of focusing solely on "who is in trouble," restorative practices focus on repairing the relationship.
Try This at Home: The "Peace Table"
The next time a conflict breaks out between siblings or family members, try sitting down at a "Peace Table" (or just the kitchen island!) and using these three restorative questions:
"What happened?" (Let everyone speak without interruption to get the whole story.)
"How were you feeling when that happened?" (This helps children name their emotions—like frustration, boredom, or sadness.)
"What can we do to make things right?" (Let the kids brainstorm the solution. Maybe it’s a high-five, a shared apology, or a deal to take turns with a toy.)
A Winter Connection Ritual
When the energy feels high, try a "Family Glow" check-in before dinner or bed. Ask everyone: "What is one kind thing someone did for you today, or one thing you did to help someone else?"
Focusing on these small moments of connection helps build a "relationship bank account" that makes it easier to navigate the grumpy moments that winter weather can bring.
We are so grateful for your partnership in helping our students grow—not just as learners, but as kind and empathetic members of our community.
Stay warm!

Character Trait Of The Month
Throughout the year, staff will be recognizing students who demonstrate different character traits each month. At the end of each month, teachers will select one student from their class who has best exemplified that month's trait to be celebrated and awarded a certificate in recognition of their character.
January's Character Trait: Integrity
Integrity means doing the right thing even when no one is watching. It includes being honest, taking responsibility for actions, keeping promises, and treating others fairly.
An Activity Parents Can Do at Home to Promote Integrity
- The "Proud Even if Alone" Praise: When you catch your child doing something good without being asked, highlight the internal reward.
“I saw you put your shoes away even though I wasn’t in the room to tell you to. That’s integrity—it shows you care about our home even when no one is watching.”
