Weekly Update

Dear Elmore School Families,

We had another great week at the Elmore School. We began the week with excitement was students planned and created Leprechaun Traps in the hopes of catching a clever little Leprechaun on St. Patrick's Day. The week ended with a fun morning of ECO with a focus on maple sugaring and fire building.... and the spring equinox arrived with several inches of snow!

Students began drafting their nature name informational writing. After categorizing their research notes, students began working on their introductions to include a strong lead sentence, background information, and a thesis sentence. During phonics lessons, first graders learned about the soft g /j/

(in the word cage) and soft c /s/ (as in the word face) sound when there is a silent e. Another group learned when to use oi (beginning or middle of a word) spelling and oy (end of a word) spelling for the /oy/ sound.

In math this week first graders used strategies to add within 20 to solve story problems. Second graders estimated where numbers would be placed on an open number line, and third graders placed fractions on a number line.continued the process of maple sugaring by boiling maple sap. unfortunately the limited time did not allow enough time for the evaporation process to turn sap into syrup, but everyone enjoyed having sap tea during sit spots.

The Carbine - March Family will bring family Hot Lunch on Monday - Vegetarian Sushi, Asian noodles, and dessert. Next week school Hot Lunch is available on Tuesday and Thursday. Sandwiches and Salads are available Tuesday - Thursday. Please Submit your lunch orders by 6:00 pm on Sunday.

We have an early dismissal on Thursday. Dismissal will be at 12:15. I will be hosting family/ teacher conferences on Thursday afternoon and all day Friday. Use the Green button to sign up for a time slot. If you are unable to use the Google Document, please let me know so I can add you to the schedule.

That's it for this week! Enjoy the snow!

In gratitude,

Diane Nicholls
