DISTRICT 14P NEWSLETTER
MARCH-APRIL
Messages
Greetings fellow Lions,
I am hope that everyone had a great March.
Some of you may know that last week, I had a STEMI. I had 100 percent blockages in two locations. I was very lucky that the ambulance came quickly and they were working on me as soon as I arrived at the hospital. I still feel weak and constantly tired.
Our District should be extremely proud of our Leo Program. I wanted to share a post I saw from International President AP Singh. "Lions have a unique opportunity to grow alongside Leos through meaningful mentoring — including reverse mentoring, where young people inspire us with fresh ideas, new technologies like AI and service that speaks to their generation. By strengthening the journey from Alpha Leo to Omega Leo to Leo-Lion, and by building more family-friendly clubs, we open the door for younger neighbors, friends and families to join us in a lifetime of service."
"The future of Lions is not ahead of us — it is already here, in the hands of the young. Together, across generations, we can continue to serve our communities — and the world — with purpose, compassion and love."
Clubs, if you are not already doing so, please post your service activities and hours in the portal or send the information to Lion Barry Marteny.
Our District Convention will be held on Saturday, April 11th at the Trinity Bible Fellowship Church in Blandon. Our Keynote Speaker will be International Director Bert Nelson from New York Mills, Minnesota. He is looking forward in visiting the District. Other speakers will be William Tucker from the Royer Greaves School for the Blind, Lion Barry Marteny on LEO Clubs, and AltruVision—A Lions Eye Bank. Please plan on attending the event. The third Lions USA Weeks of Service which emphasizes the Environment will be held on April 18th thru the 26th. This Aligns with Earth Day. You can visit the Weeks of Service Webpage for more information.

As the seasons change and spring begins to bring new energy to our communities, I
am reminded of the incredible commitment Lions continue to demonstrate through
their service. This past month has been both productive and inspiring, filled with
opportunities to witness firsthand the impact that our clubs make every day.
I had the pleasure of visiting the Hamburg Lions Club, where I got to meet lions
that I did not have the privilege to see in the past. What a great and friendly group
of Lions. Their ongoing efforts to support their community reflect the heart of our
mission and remind us that service continues to be the foundation of all that we do.
I am also pleased to share that planning for our upcoming District Convention has
been successfully completed. Conventions provide an important opportunity for
Lions to come together, share ideas, celebrate achievements, and strengthen the
friendships that unite us in service. I look forward to seeing many of you there as
we continue to build momentum for the future.
Another highlight of the month was visiting Friends, Inc. in Kutztown, where I was
able to tour their new facility that is currently under development. It was inspiring
to see the work being done to expand their ability to support individuals and
families in need. Partnerships between Lions and community organizations like
Friends, Inc. demonstrate how working together allows us to serve more people
and create lasting impact.
As spring arrives, it brings a renewed sense of excitement for the many service
projects, fundraisers, and outreach activities taking place throughout our district.
This season reminds us that growth and new opportunities are always ahead, and
Lions continue to lead the way in finding meaningful ways to serve.
Thank you to each and every Lion for your continued dedication to your
communities. Your compassion, generosity, and willingness to serve make a
difference in the lives of so many. Because of your efforts, our communities are
stronger and brighter.
Together, we continue to live our motto:
Where there is a need, there is a Lion.

Notice: District 14-P Convention Food Drive
Hello all, Lions
Please be advised that a collection of food donations for local food banks will take place at the District 14-P Convention. I am encouraging our Lions Clubs to participate in collecting food and getting it to the District Convention on April 11th! This is in keeping with one of this year’s LCI service goals of addressing hunger.
Donated food will be divided and distributed to the clearinghouses for food donations in both Chester County (Chester County Food Bank) and Berks County (Helping Harvest). Both organizations have good information about collecting food on their websites if you need more detail.
Please address this project at your club meetings, plan for a designated date for your collection (in advance of the convention) and identify those attending the convention to transport your donations. You may want to begin setting some boxes aside.
Notes about food donation guidelines:
· NO GLASS PRODUCTS/ITEMS
· Items cannot be expired or in rusted, dented or leaking containers
· Food items must contain product ingredients (no unidentifiable bags or cans can be used – no homemade items)
· Nonperishable food in plastic, cardboard or cans works best
· Consider including non-food items that are needed such as personal hygiene, feminine hygiene, diapers, toilet paper, paper plates and cups
I will need a few volunteers with a truck or van to help transport the donations from the convention on the day of. Trucks should have a covered bed in case of rain (as the food will not be able to be delivered until Monday-Friday of the following week). We will need delivery to Helping Harvest in Reading and Chester County Food Bank in Exton. Potential volunteers can let me know.
Of course, financial support is also welcomed by these organizations if your club would rather do that.
As always, be sure to document your club efforts by entering project into LCI database.

Hope in Action: Join us at the Convention to Honor our Deceased Members
There is a season and time for everything in this world. On Saturday, April 11, we will gather at the District Convention to honor our fellow Lions who have passed in the last year. You are invited to join us at this Necrology Service at 9:15 AM. Honoring these Lions is important as we both grieve their passing and give thanks for the beautiful moments that we shared and celebrate their service to others.
We might not have personally known every Lion that we remember, but they were Lions, good, honest, trusted, sharing, caring. They were Lions who lived out the motto of “We serve.”
I want to encourage you to share stories at the convention about those we remember. What did they love? How did they serve? What examples could we follow?
And we can be confident that God is walking with us. With the Psalms as my authority, I confidently say to us all that God knows how we feel and is listening.
Join us as we thank God for the gift of the lives we remember. We are honored to have known them, we are grateful.

2026 CALENDAR PAYMENTS SENT TO YOU FASTER
If you want your winnings faster and directly into your checking account,
instantly, we are offering payments through ZELLE. Set up your account
through your bank website or the Zelle app. Once set up contact me with
your cell number and email address attached to your current or new Zelle
account. pennoak@gmail.com text 484-631-8932. PDG Rich Taylor, Treas.
Zelle in 2026: Fast, Free, and Focused on Safety
In the world of digital finance, speed is king. Whether you’re splitting a dinner bill, paying the
babysitter, or sending emergency funds to a family member, Zelle® has become the go-to standard
for instant, bank-to-bank transfers.
But as the platform continues to grow—now integrated into over 2,200 financial institutions—it’s more
important than ever to understand how to use it efficiently and, most importantly, safely.
What is Zelle?
Zelle is a peer-to-peer (P2P) payment network that moves money directly between U.S. bank
accounts in minutes. Unlike apps like Venmo or PayPal, Zelle doesn’t hold your money in a "digital
wallet." Instead, the funds go straight from your checking account into the recipient’s, often with no
fees attached.
How It Works (The 2026 Update)
The beauty of Zelle is its simplicity. You don't need to share your bank account number or routing
information. All you need is:
An Enrolled Account: Most major banks and credit unions have Zelle built directly into their mobile
apps.
The Recipient’s Identifier: A U.S. mobile number or email address is all it takes to find them.
QR Codes: For even faster transactions, you can now simply scan a recipient’s unique Zelle QR
code to ensure you’re sending money to the right person without manual typing.
The "Golden Rule" of Zelle Safety
Because Zelle transfers are instant and irreversible, they are essentially the digital equivalent of
handing someone cash. Once you hit "Send," the money is gone. To stay protected in 2026, follow
these three rules:
Only Pay People You Know: Never use Zelle to buy items from strangers on marketplaces like
Facebook or Craigslist. If the item never arrives, Zelle does not offer "Buyer Protection."
Beware of "Bank Impersonation" Scams: Scammers may call or text pretending to be your
bank, claiming there’s "fraud" on your account and asking you to "Zelle yourself" to fix it. Your
bank will never ask you to do this.
The $1 Test: If you are sending a large amount of money to someone for the first time, send $1
first. Have them confirm they received it before sending the rest of the balance.
Final Thoughts
Zelle is an incredibly powerful tool for managing daily life. It’s fast, free, and convenient. By treating
it like cash and only using it with people you truly trust, you can enjoy the benefits of instant banking
while keeping your hard-earned money secure.

Dear Leo Club Program Leader,
Your hard work guiding and assisting Leos is critical to ensuring their continued service. Leos in your area may be aging up or reaching the end of their eligibility as a Leo, and you have the opportunity to continue to guide them in their next steps. Members beyond the eligible age for their respective Leo programs (Alpha Leos age 19 and Omega Leos age 31) will have their records automatically closed by Lions International on June 30, 2026. Communications will be going out shortly to your affected Leos.
Now is a great time for you to collaboratively develop a plan. Be proactive and reach out to Leos about their next steps in their service journey!
Steps to help your Leos continue their service journey
Utilize resources and identify impacted Leos: Review the resources on the Encourage Leos to become Lions webpage to equip you with tools to support the Leo to Lion transition, including the Leos Aging Up report to find clubs with impacted Leos. Leo advisors can use the Lion Portal to access the list of Leos whose recorded birthdates reflect current or approaching ineligibility.
Work as a team: Work with your GMT, GET and Leo leadership to help your Leos find their fit as a Lion. Your GMT may be able to assist in a smooth transition to existing Lions clubs, and your GET may be able to provide guidance for Leos interested in chartering their own Lions or Leo-Lion club.
Involve Leo-Lions: Collect stories and experiences from Leo-Lions in your area to share what awaits Leos when they become Lions. Consider the best methods to share these stories, whether it be a social media post, a discussion with a Leo-Lion or something else. Here’s an example!
Reach out to Leos: Share the What comes Next for Leos webpage with Leos to remind them of Lion membership options, including the Leo-Lion program and its benefits. Omega Leos is another great option for Alpha Leos.
Learn how to transfer Leo memberships: Share this video and document how to transfer Leos to Lions membership with Lion leaders, including Lions club secretaries and presidents.
Celebrate Leos:
April is Leo awareness month! Celebrate the Leos in your district and the Leo club advisors on the first-ever International Leo Club Advisor Day on April 30.
Did the Leos in your district take part in the Leo recruitment pitch competition this month? If so, make sure to submit the one winning video from your district by March 15.
Leos may also have questions regarding discounted international dues. Leo-Lions wishing to count towards the club’s total delegate entitlement can waive their international dues discount. Lions clubs secretaries can do this for them in the Lion Portal. In areas not using the Lion Portal, please contact your council chairperson and district/multiple district office staff administrators.

From the very beginning, Lions have welcomed everyone with a heart to serve — and that spirit shines especially bright when we engage younger generations. Young people bring fresh ideas, new energy and a passion for service that help keep our organization strong, relevant and growing.
To carry our mission into the next 100 years and beyond, we must continue inviting dynamic, service-minded people to stand alongside us.
Lions have a unique opportunity to grow alongside Leos through meaningful mentoring — including reverse mentoring, where young people inspire us with fresh ideas, new technologies like AI and service that speaks to their generation. By strengthening the journey from Alpha Leo to Omega Leo to Leo-Lion, and by building more family-friendly clubs, we open the door for younger neighbors, friends and families to join us in a lifetime of service.
The future of Lions is not ahead of us — it is already here, in the hands of the young. Together, across generations, we can continue to serve our communities — and the world — with purpose, compassion and love.

PEACE POSTER CONTEST
It's not too early to start thinking which schools you can contact about the PEACE POSTER CONTEST.
September to Deadline in October is a very short time for the students to work on their posters.
For last year's contest the District only received 2 posters. The Poster doesn't have to come from a Leo; any student can enter. Please think about reaching out to schools in your area and encourage them to do a poster.
Our Peace Poster Contest Brings Your Community Together
The Peace Poster Contest invites young people around the world to express their creativity while sharing their unique vision of peace. This special blog shows the powerful impact the contest has on our clubs, our youth and our communities.

BIRD FEEDERS
This simple project blended creativity, nature, and community awareness —
reminding us that even small acts can make a big difference for the environment.
Students got hands-on and a little messy creating homemade bird feeders using pinecones, peanut butter, and bird seed.
After carefully coating and rolling their pinecones, they hung
them outside to welcome local birds.
RONALD McDONALD HOUSE
Students had the opportunity to give back by preparing and serving breakfast at Ronald McDonald House. From cooking and setting up to greeting families with warm smiles, they experienced firsthand what it means to serve others with compassion. This meaningful morning reminded everyone that kindness, teamwork, and a simple meal can bring comfort and support to families during challenging times.
BIRD HOUSES FOR EARTH DAY
Recently took part in a hands-on community service project
to celebrate Earth Day and support local wildlife.
Students worked together to build wooden birdhouses from scratch, learning how to safely assemble the pieces before adding their own creative touches.
Once constructed, members painted and decorated the birdhouses, making each one unique with bright colors and designs.
After completing their projects, students took the birdhouses home to hang in their neighborhoods and community spaces, helping provide safe places for birds to nest while also bringing a little extra beauty to the area.
