Congratulations to Olivia Johnson, 12th grade Lancer, on winning a Special Award in the prestigious International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF), which was held in Phoenix, Arizona last week. Olivia earned a First Prize $5,000 Special Award from the Drug, Chemical & Associated Technologies Association (DCAT) for her project, titled: Investigating the Synergistic Effect of Ivermectin and C-Phycocyanin on Cell Viability and Clonogenic Capacity in Triple-Negative Breast Cancer.

On Friday, students from Thousand Oaks High School traveled to Newbury Park High School for fun and some friendly competition at the second annual Multilingual Learner Soccer Game.
The Multilingual Learner Soccer Game began last year through the connections built within the Newcomer Academy at Newbury Park High School. When students in the program were asked if they would like to start a soccer team, the answer was an enthusiastic and resounding yes! The purpose of this game is to provide students with an opportunity to be part of something they may not otherwise have access to, while helping them feel connected, included, and valued within their school community. Being part of the soccer team and participating in the game is also a unique opportunity to support students by giving them a positive outlet, a sense of belonging, and something to look forward to.
Congratulations to all participants on their excellent display of sportsmanship and talent, while most importantly having fun and building connection to each other and the broader community. Thank you to all of our staff who make important opportunities like this a reality!
Innovation in Action: CVUSD Students Showcase Ingenuity at CLU New Venture Fair
The New Venture Fair (NVF) is a valuable part of Cal Lutheran's entrepreneurial education experience, in which student teams share their innovative startup projects in a competitive environment. At this year's annual event - there were 67 teams from two universities and five high schools. CVUSD students represented 16 of these teams, with students from Newbury Park High School, Thousand Oaks High School and Westlake High School participating in this dynamic and exciting event.
Congratulations to our teams of CVUSD student-led businesses for their demonstration of exceptional entrepreneurial spirit, creativity, and problem-solving skills throughout the competition. The student teams impressed attendees with their understanding of startup development, innovative marketing strategies, and financial management practices necessary to operate and grow a business successfully. Event attendees voted for their favorite student ventures, and several CVUSD teams were recognized with awards for their outstanding presentations and achievements, including: Best Marketing Campaign, People's Choice, Best Executive Summary, and Best Recorded Pitch.
