“ WE DO NOT HAVE TO BECOME HEROES OVERNIGHT. JUST A STEP AT A TIME, MEETING EACH THING THAT COMES UP, SEEING IT AS NOT AS DREADFUL AS IT APPEARS, DISCOVERING THAT WE HAVE THE STRENGTH TO STARE IT DOWN .”

Message from Superintendent Mueller
Good Afternoon, CUSD,
It has been a very busy week in our district - and the cooler weather has been a welcome change!
On Tuesday we unveiled a beautiful new addition to the CMS lobby - the Boat House mosaic. The stunning piece, originally a gift from the 1962-64 CHS Art Club, has found its way back to the district. Check it out!
In alignment with our Portrait of a Graduate initiative, today we celebrated both languages and culture at CHS. Librarian Faye Hunt hosted Newbery-award winning graphic novelist Pedro Martin (author of Mexikid and MexiKid Dreams) for an author talk, book signing and giveaways. This afternoon, Maylen Sullivan, our K-12 World Languages Teacher on Special Assignment was presented with a certificate by the Executive Director of the California Language Teachers Association (CLTA), and a representative from Assemblymember Boerner’s office, for her service as the 2026 CA Teacher of the Year. We are very proud of our world language pathways and very grateful to educators like Faye and Maylen who always go the extra mile for our students.
Next month our 6th graders will attend the rite-of-passage known as 6th Grade Camp. The cost of camp is $395 per student and while some families can cover that expense others need financial assistance. Every year we make sure that all students have the chance to be a part of this special and unique learning experience. Please see the flyer below if you would like to donate to the scholarship fund for this wonderful opportunity.
Have a wonderful weekend!

CAUGHT POG'N!
As our educators, parents, and community come together to connect, challenge, and champion our students, we are humbled by the outpouring of compliments celebrating how our CUSD family is bringing our Portrait of a Graduate vision to life. What a positive testament to our community!
Click here to recognize a student, staff member, or volunteer who has been "Caught PoG'n!"
Those who are recognized will receive a copy of the positive words shared about them and an official "Caught PoG'n!" decal. Please take a minute or two to highlight someone actively modeling our district's core competencies and brighten their day!
