Week of May 18th

Week of August 31, 2026
PRINCIPAL'S POST WITH DR. WRIGHT
🎬 NHE Families!
We had another fantastic week of learning and engagement at Nottingham! Our Knights continue to settle into strong routines, embrace new learning, and demonstrate the enthusiasm and effort that make our campus such a special place. It has been exciting to see our students taking center stage both inside and outside the classroom!
As we continue building momentum, we encourage every Knight to consistently demonstrate our 3 R’s each day:
⭐ Be Respectful
⭐ Be Responsible
⭐ Be Ready
Thank you, families, for your continued partnership as we build a school year centered on learning, growth, belonging, and excellence!
♟️ CHECKMATE! NHE Chess Takes 1st Place!
Congratulations to Coach Bell and our outstanding NHE Chess Team for capturing 1st Place at the 2nd Annual NHE Chess Tournament! 🏆♟️
Our Knights represented Nottingham exceptionally well, demonstrating focus, strategy, perseverance, and great sportsmanship throughout the tournament. We are incredibly proud of our students and grateful to Coach Bell for his leadership and dedication. Thank you as well to our families for supporting and encouraging our young chess players. Way to go, Knights! 🏆🎉
📚 Reading Buddies – Volunteers Needed!
Help support our 2nd grade students’ literacy development while helping foster a lifelong love of reading! Through SBISD’s Reading Buddies program, trained adult volunteers provide one-on-one reading support to a student for 30 minutes, once a week.
Nottingham will host a Reading Buddies Volunteer Training on Wednesday, September 2 at 9:30 a.m. Training and resources are provided by SBISD. Returning Reading Buddies volunteers do not need to complete the training again.
To sign up for the training, please email Yvonne.Carter@springbranchisd.com.
🍎 Free & Reduced Lunch Application – Every Application Helps!
We are continuing to encourage all NHE families who have not yet done so to complete the Free and Reduced Lunch Application. In addition to determining meal benefits for eligible families, completed applications help determine important Title I funding and resources available to our campus.
Title I funds provide valuable support for instructional programs, academic resources, student services, and additional personnel that directly benefit our students and strengthen the learning opportunities we are able to provide at Nottingham.
Our campus must meet the 35% eligibility threshold to retain Title I status, so every completed application matters. There is no downside to applying, and we encourage families to take a few minutes to complete the application, even if you are unsure whether your family will qualify.
If you have not yet completed an application for this school year, please visit School Café today. Thank you for helping us continue providing valuable resources and opportunities for our Knights!
🎲 Indoor Recess: Movement, Enrichment & Connection
During high temperatures or inclement weather, recess may need to take place indoors. During indoor recess, technology is not used; instead, students have opportunities for movement, enrichment, creativity, and positive peer interaction. Thank you to our PTA for providing resources and materials to help keep this time engaging and meaningful for our Knights!
📅 Important Dates
Parent Lunch Visitors

We are excited to welcome our families for lunch! To help us maintain a safe, welcoming, and smooth cafeteria environment, please keep these reminders in mind:
- 🪑 Parents and visitors must sit with their student at the designated parent tables.
- 👨👩👧 Parents may enjoy lunch with their own student only.
- ⏰ Please be mindful of your child’s scheduled lunch time and arrive and depart on time to help us maintain a smooth transition between grade levels.

🚗 Arrival, Dismissal & Safety
Thank you, families, for your continued partnership in helping our arrival and dismissal procedures run smoothly. Your patience, cooperation, and attention to our procedures continue to make a tremendous difference.
As always, student safety remains at the forefront of everything we do. Please help us by keeping the following reminders in mind:
🚗 Please pull forward as far as possible in the car line to help us safely and efficiently unload students.
👧 Students should enter and exit vehicles from the passenger side whenever possible.
🚶 For the safety of all students, we kindly ask that students not walk through the parking lot unattended during morning arrival. If using the parking lot, please accompany your child and use the designated crosswalks.
↔️ Please remember that the middle lane entering the parking lot is not a turning lane. Following the designated traffic pattern helps us maintain a safe and orderly flow of vehicles.
🚲 Please remain alert and watch carefully for student walkers and bicyclists during both arrival and dismissal.
⏰ Students should arrive on time and be ready to begin learning at 7:55 a.m.
❤️ Please continue demonstrating patience, courtesy, and attentiveness as we work together to keep every Knight safe.
Thank you for your continued trust, support, and partnership. We have tremendous momentum, and I am excited about another week of learning, engagement, and excellence at Nottingham!
Knights, Camera... Action! 🎬
With Knight Pride,
Dr. Wright

During this session, we will explore practical ways parents and caregivers can partner with their child’s school to establish a strong academic foundation and support continued growth from elementary school through middle school, high school, and beyond. We will provide ideas and strategies you can use to help your child succeed today while preparing for tomorrow that can help create and nurture pathways to academic success.

Celebrate your student’s birthday or 5th grade graduation while supporting the NHE PTA! SFMS Academic Advanced Courses Parent Presentation
Miss the SFMS Academic Advanced Course Parent Presentation? No problem! This meeting provided an overview of Advanced Academic Courses (AAC) at Spring Forest Middle School, including the differences between AAC and Academic classes, entrance requirements, course options, policies, and tips for student success. While it may still feel early for 5th grade families to be thinking about middle school, the information shared in this presentation will be helpful when it comes time to consider and submit course selections in the spring. Families who were unable to attend can view the Advanced Academic Course Parent Presentation here!
NHE Bike Rack Volunteers - August 24-September 4, 2026
NHE Kindergarten Lunch Volunteers
Volunteer to help with Kindergarten Lunch Duty! We’re so grateful for your support of our youngest students. Kindergarten lunch takes place from 11:40 a.m. to 12:10 p.m. Teachers have shared a few ways volunteers can be especially helpful during this time:
- Help students open food items and packages.
- Walk around the lunch tables and help monitor students.
- Please do not eat lunch with your student during this volunteer time.
- Please refrain from taking photos of students in accordance with school policy.
As always, before volunteering, please make sure you are a registered and approved SBISD volunteer!
NHE WATCH D.O.G.S. Volunteers
Hey, guys, you ready to let the dogs out?! Thank you to all of our "Heroes of the Hallways" who signed up to serve this fall as a WATCH D.O.G.S. volunteer! We truly appreciate your time and support! If you missed the fall sign-up, no worries! There will be a second opportunity to sign-up in the spring. Remember, additional volunteer opportunities such as lunch, recess, the Art Room, and more are available to all parents and guardians throughout the entire school year and also offer a wonderful way to stay involved with your student and connected to our school community!
If you have more than one student currently at NHE, we will work with you to make sure you have time with each student. WATCH D.O.G.S. volunteers will receive a WATCH D.O.G.S. t-shirt the first time they volunteer this year and volunteers are also welcome to purchase additional WATCH D.O.G.S. gear from the official store.
When you arrive at NHE, please check in with the front office to receive your schedule and instructions for the day. If you need to make a change to your scheduled shift, please notify the Volunteer Engagement team or the NHE front office at least two days in advance. The front office maintains the WATCH D.O.G.S. volunteer schedule, so you must be on the schedule before arriving at NHE in order to serve that day. Because of this process, we are unable to make same-day exceptions. If you would like to trade dates with someone who is already signed up, please contact the Volunteer Engagement team with the details. If you are not trading your date/time, your spot will be offered to the next person on the waiting list. Yes, we do have a waitlist! Please send schedule changes or trade requests to volunteer@nottinghampta.org.
Before volunteering, please remember:
- Review the volunteer process and procedures guide.
- You must be a registered and approved SBISD volunteer.
Please join us in celebrating our wonderful staff by wishing them a happy birthday on their special day! A kind note or thoughtful greeting from students and families is a simple way to help them feel appreciated.
