From Principal McCray

Good evening families,

We are counting down the days until we see our students again. School starts on Wednesday, August 20. Included in this newsletter are several tidbits to help with arrival, dismissal and other pertinent information.

Friendly reminder: we ask that families stay in their cars during drop off and pick up .

  • If you would like to take pictures, please park your car to capture the moment so that we don't hold up the traffic flow.

  • Pets are not allowed in and around school areas. This includes bus stops. We ask families to be mindful of this as some students and families may have allergic reactions. I know that students are anxious to see their pet at the end of the day (and the dog wants to go for a walk!) but these animals can be disruptive to a school environment, scare students, and carry allergens.

Let's go, Roadrunners!

New Arbor View logo!

I have exciting news to kick off the 2025-26 school year. We have been working to update the Arbor View logo. Our school did not own the rights to the previous roadrunner logo, which created copyright issues and caused problems for printers.

Last year, we held meetings with students and staff to learn more about what Arbor View means to our kids and our team. Then, we worked with a graphic designer who incorporated the feedback into a final design that I am excited to debut!

You’ll see that our new Roadrunner has a bit of the old and a bit of the new: there are the colors from the Looney Tunes bird we were using, but the body more closely represents a real-life roadrunner.

The Arbor View Roadrunner is friendly, welcoming, and in motion -- qualities students and staff identified as emblematic of our community. The Roadrunner is wearing a backpack to show it is hardworking, and the Roadrunner’s gym shoes show it is active and fun. And the Roadrunner is walking up the school’s famous ramp!

The Roadrunner doesn’t have a name yet… but I bet the kids can help us find one this school year.

We will start using the logos in place of the retired logo.

Arrival and dismissal

Arrival and dismissal may take a little longer than normal as we get accustomed to our morning and afternoon routines and areas. Please be patient as we work through this process. I promise by the second week it will be a well-oiled machine.

Car riders will enter the school parking lot off of Teakwood Avenue and follow the signs for drop-off. We respectfully ask that families stay in their cars during the drop-off process. If you would like to walk your student to the door, please park in the parking lot. In addition, bus pick up and drop off may be slightly delayed as we want to ensure all students are accounted for and in their correct areas.

Students can begin arriving at 8:30 a.m.

First bell: 8:40 a.m.

School begins: 8:50 a.m.

Students will line up at the following doors:

  • ARRIVAL
    • Kindergarten: Door 2 (by playground)
    • Grades 1 and 2: Door 1 (main entrance)
    • Grades 3-5: Door 6

  • DISMISSAL
    • (Walkers):
      • Grades 1 and 2: Door 1 (main entrance) students will meet their adult by the tree/Arbor View sign

  • Kindergarten: Door 2 (by playground) picked up by an adult
  • Grades 3-5: released out of Door 6

  • Car riders will wait inside of the vestibule of Door 1 for their guardian to arrive.

If you are changing how your student will be dismissed an alternative way, email the teacher and Mrs. Ackerman.

Verkada System

Our school uses the Verkada visitor management system for all individuals entering the building and for signing students in and out.

What you need to know:

Before- and after-school care available through YMCA, park district

CCSD 89 partners with the B.R. Ryall YMCA (Safe 'n Sound) and the Butterfield Park District (RecKids) to provide before- and after-school programs for students at Arbor View, Briar Glen, Park View, and Westfield elementary schools. More information: www.ccsd89.org/beforeafter Families should contact the Butterfield Park District and B.R. Ryall YMCA directly with questions about those programs.

New app can help families keep up with bus travel

Many families will be able to track their student’s bus trips to and from school with a new, free busing app. The FirstView 1.0 app can track the bus, show an estimated number of minutes until the bus will arrive at a stop, and send a notification when buses arrive at school.

Families that had been using the previous FirstView app will need to download the new version called “FirstView 1.0”. The new app will track both regular-education and special-education busing. More information, including instructions on downloading the app and CCSD 89 code, are available at www.ccsd89.org/busapp

Bus routes will not be available until closer to the start of the school year.

Connect with a local library for discounts to local attractions

If you’re interested in visiting museums in the Chicagoland area, the Museum Adventure Pass Program and Explore More Illinois provide free or discounted admission to some nearby attractions.

Both programs connect the Glen Ellyn, Helen Plum, and Wheaton libraries with participating museums, offering free or discounted passes. To access these programs, review the list of participating libraries and check the current availability of passes for the museum you wish to visit.

Health Updates Health Updates

Important health information for the 2025-26 school year

If any student will need medicine at school, the medication authorization form will need to be filled out by parents/guardians and doctor each school year. It should be turned into building nurse prior to the first day of school. Parents are responsible for providing the school with any medications needed.

If a student has a food allergy or any severe allergy, there are attached surveys to be filled out, along with the medication authorization forms.

If your child has a prescription medication that they need to take at school, it needs to come in the original prescription bottle. If your child will be taking an over-the-counter medication it needs to come in the original packaging.

Please note that if the school does not receive the documents and medicine before the first day of school, the student will not be able to take the medicine at school.

If a student has asthma or seizures there is an attached action plan to fill out.

Please reach out to nurse McKenna if you have any questions.
