5 Essentials Impact Survey
Each year the state of Illinois elicits feedback from staff, parents, and students in 3rd-5th grades on the quality of our school. This survey is called the 5Essentials survey. Students in 3rd-5th grades will be taking the survey in their classrooms. More information will be forthcoming from classroom teachers.
The window for the parent component is now open and can be accessed through this link. Please take a few minutes between today and the end of next month to give your input on Roslyn Road. This is an important metric in our state school report card and your feedback is important to us.
The survey closes March 28.
K-Lab Virtual Round-Up Additional Session: Wednesday, February 26
We will host a Kindergarten Lab (K-Lab) Virtual Round-Up Informational Session on Wednesday, Feb. 26, from 6 - 7 p.m. for parents of incoming kindergarteners. Learn more about this unique, full-day program at Barrington High School, which offers a one-of-a-kind educational experience for our youngest learners and our high school students. In addition to the core kindergarten curriculum, K-Lab students participate in numerous activities with high school students, such as horticulture activities inside the BHS greenhouse, authentic learning experiences inside the new state-of-the-art culinary arts lab, musical instrument exploration with high school band and orchestra students, and cultural celebrations with BHS world language students. K-Lab students form connections to their home school through participation in extracurricular and PTO events throughout the year and complete grades 1-5 at their home elementary school. For more information about K-Lab and the virtual program link for Feb.26th, visit: https://www.barrington220.org/families/kindergarten-information.
Traffic Line Safety at School
A reminder about courtesy and safety in the traffic line. We need to remember to drive with the utmost caution around our school. I am requesting that everyone re-commit to our shared desire for safety around our school:
Mind the speed limits in our parking lot and in the neighborhood.
Always give pedestrians the right of way and be cognizant of children around you.
It is helpful to school personnel if you place a sign with your child’s first and last names in your vehicle’s windshield. This keeps the line moving efficiently.
Please be courteous in the arrival and pick-up lines and pull all the way to the picnic area as directed by school personnel. DO NOT weave in/out of the line. If all drivers continue to pull up, the line will move quickly.
Load/unload quickly at arrival and dismissal so the process works efficiently while staying safe.
Sledding
We add sledding as a recess activity for students in grades 3-5. This is contingent on adequate supervision and favorable conditions. We utilize the slope of the retention pond when dry and clear of standing water. Students MUST sled feet first or in a seated position. (No head first sledding at school). The sleds must be those provided by school (soft shell). If this is an activity that you would prefer for your child not to participate in please let the office know. Students must have snow gear to sled. We do not sled in K-2 grade.
Snow Gear Reminder
Snow Gear Reminder: In order to play in the snow students must have protective gear: winter jacket, boots, SNOW PANTS (these can be any pullover pants that have some water resistance), hats and gloves. Recess is at the middle of the school day and we want our students dry and ready to learn when they come inside from winter fun! In addition, we go outside for recess until a “feel like temperature” of 0 degrees and below! A change of clothing to be stored in the cubby is always a good idea. Proper attire helps to keep you warm too!
