The National Honor Society (NHS) is an organization that recognizes high school students for excellence in Scholarship, Leadership, Service, and Character.

• Scholarship: Demonstrating academic excellence, typically with a minimum GPA/average of 90.

• Leadership: Showing initiative, guiding others, and taking responsibility in school activities, sports, or community roles.

• Service: Contributing time and effort to the school and local community through volunteering.

• Character: Exhibiting integrity, honesty, and respectful behavior as recognized by staff at LaGuardia.

How it Works:

1. Selection: Students are invited to join LaGuardia's NHS chapter, which selects members based on the four pillars above.

2. Membership: Once inducted, students participate in chapter activities, community service projects, leadership development and chapter meetings.

3. Benefits: Membership offers recognition of their achievements, which also strengthens college applications.

When will I be able to apply?

• Please look for applications in the Fall if you are interested. Current Sophomores and Juniors are able to apply in the Fall. Students should look for applications in the Yellow Sheet and be prepared to fill out an application, obtain a teacher recommendation and be able to show proof of tutoring hours (minimum 10 hours in tutoring) as well as additional community volunteer hours (30 hours- both at LaGuardia and in the rest of the NYC community). Students' transcripts are also reviewed.

We look forward to growing our chapter at LaGuardia !

Last weekend our Science Olympiad team faced off in regionals. A special congratulations to Gannon Gladstone, Samuel Rayas, Bowie Osorio, Jeongjin Lee, Carmeleyna Mentor, Viveka Avrutin Baker and Barbara Murusidze Kolashvili for placing in their events. And a special special congrats to Katarina Binec and Calista Kilb for finishing 1st in "Write it Do it."

Seniors have until February 2, 2026, to order & pay their Cap, Gown, Tassel, Diploma Cover, and Stole through the SmoothUSA.com/LaGuardia Store Front. Visit the site for additional information.

After February 2, students will pay for their Cap & Gown package through the school's website, along with their Senior Dues.

A Graduation package is ordered for every Senior regardless, even if they do not meet the February 2 deadline.

Families where the Graduation package & Senior Dues becomes a hardship will receive information about requesting a payment plan, adjusted due date, or waiver should look for information in the Yellow Sheet in February.
