June

June is here! CONGRATULATIONS on completing the end of the school year. I hope that you are all enjoying the summer holidays and taking some time for YOU. The end of the school year was particularly busy as I fit in a Battle of the Books organized by LASL Past President Kristy Barker along with a library-sponsored ice cream party for the third and fourth grade students who participated. If you are interested in participating in Battle of the Books next year, please reach out. My students love it, and it is now an annual tradition.

This year, for my library auction item, I offered a Librarian for the Day. This was a huge success. The fourth grade student who won led storytimes (featuring The Book with No Pictures) for my preschool classes, checked in and reshelved books, processed some books, and put in a request with my principal for an author visit for next year! I am not sure who had more fun this day!

Then, of course, the last couple of weeks centered on trying to get all of our books and materials returned to the library....

So, now that I can take a breath, my summer plans center around the three Rs: Rowing, Reading, and Research.

During the month of June, please take advantage of the LLA/LASL Membership Drive. The LLA Executive Board is offering two discount codes to new and renewing members. (The renewal date for many members is July 1, so LLA and LASL are hoping that these codes will help in a small way.)

  • Renewing Members can use the code RENEW26 for $5.00 off of their membership rate; and
  • New Members who are joining LLA for the first time can use the code NEW26 to save $10.00.

Before we all depart for the summer, the LASL Board wants to send another HUGE CONGRATULATIONS to our LASL winners:

  • LASL Librarian of the Year, Ashley Meaux
  • James O. Modisette winner for Elementary School Library Excellence, Lindsay Loup
  • James O. Modisette winners for High School Library Excellence, Jessica Netterville and Jessica Kastner.

If you will be attending the American Library Association conference later this month and would like to meet up, please send an email to geauxlasl@gmail.com.

As always, your LASL Board is here for you...even over the summer.

HAPPY SUMMER!

Best,

Soline Holmes

LASL President
