A Note from the Principal... A Note from the Principal...

Happy September!

Dear Crichfield Families,

We have had a great start to our school year. Students and teachers are beginning to settle into the new school year. Please try to keep routines as stable as possible for your child. This includes bedtime, morning, and pick up schedules.

Teachers are using a new reading curriculum based on the Science of Reading. You may hear your child talking about CKLA. There will be a learning curve as we are learning the best way to meet kids needs. Look for parent letters that will help you to understand what is being taught everyday.

If you need to reach your child's teacher please use Parent Square. If you message after the school day, please know the teachers will respond during the next work day. The teachers are busy working with your child during the school day and often need some time to respond.

We pride ourselves on successfully getting all of our students in the correct line (bus or pick up) using Pik My Kid and a consistent routine helps!

I encourage you to read all of the newsletter to learn more about our school!

Arrival & Dismissal

Attention families! Please do not pull into the bus lot from 8:25-9:00 am and 3:05-3:25pm. Students are loading and unloading during those times and we need to keep everyone safe! If you have something to drop off to the office, please pull up to the yellow gates on the staff parking lot side.

I have had some questions about parking and picking up your child. The entire dismissal process from start to finish is 3:07 until about 3:25 for the last car to pick up their kid (sometimes earlier). There is no need to line up early and wait in your car. Your child is called from their classroom by the Pik My Kid app announcing your arrival. Students walk to Door 3 and are checked out by staff.

The parents that park near the yellow gate are typically parents of students that are in the Life Skills classes. Those students have special needs and must be walked and exchanged teacher to parent. Also, there are parents that pay for childcare occasionally park and pick their kids up from childcare. In addition, there are staff members that walk their kids out at the end of the day. I ask that we make the best attempt possible to limit students walking through the parking lot. My goal is to ensure that everyone is able to safely leave the school grounds. That is why parking and walking up to get your child isn't allowed.

We encourage cars that need to buckle their kids in, to pull up to the yellow gate, get out, and make adjustments as needed to be safe.

Attendance Information

Schools are required to intervene with new reporting requirements when elementary students are chronically absent. It is more important than ever to prioritize daily attendance. Developing healthy attendance habits can reduce stress, make it easier to maintain connections with friends and teachers, and support learning. Please remember that absences add up quickly, and even a few days missed each month can have a negative impact. To “verify” every absence, parents or guardians must call the office; otherwise, it will be considered an unexcused absence. Also, please call the office if you need to pick your child up early for an appointment or early dismissal. This will allow us to communicate to the teachers and have your child ready when you arrive. Our goal is to have each student be in school as much as possible, however we understand that illness prevents this from happening at times. A student will be considered "chronically" absent if they miss 10% or more of their 180 days of the school year for any reason.

Remember, perfect attendance means being here every day, not leaving early, or coming late to school.

Chromebook Insurance

Chromebook insurance is now free to all students through the La Porte Community School

Corporation and will now be handled by our third party vendor SecuredTech Solutions Inc. Click the picture to be linked directly to the LPCSC One To World Learning page.

The plan includes device repairs for accidental physical damage to a cased Covered Device

that occurs anywhere in the United States during the Coverage Period. Accidental damage

incidents include fire, flood, earthquake or other natural disaster; spills, splash, or full

immersion; and theft, robbery or burglary (police report required). The following types of

damage are covered by the ADP plan:

● LCD burnout

● RAM failure and/or error

● Loose charging ports

● Wi-Fi board failure

● Hard drive crash

● Cracked screens resulting in lack of functionality

● Mechanical or electrical failure

● Battery (limited to one (1) replacement per device serial number during the Coverage

Period)

Students will still be responsible for any loss or damage to chromebook cases and chargers.

Those are not covered by the ADP and in the event there is loss or damage, a fee will be

assessed through Skyward for the replacement cost. Students will also be responsible for the

full cost of the device if the device can not be found and is not lost due to theft, robbery or burglary (police report is required).

Volunteer Opportunities

We love our volunteers and look forward to having some extra help for various different events and classroom activities. All volunteers must have a background check completed each school year. Please contact the office or ask your child's teacher for the form to complete.

Well Being Surveys

LPCSC Families,

La Porte Community Schools (LPCSC), a recipient of the Project Aware grant awarded to our school corporation by the Indiana Department of Education in 2023, is committed to supporting the social, emotional, physical, and mental well-being of our students. The Project Aware grant is a four-year grant that will provide resources through 2026 to foster safe and healthy environments for all students.

LPCSC will partner with Project Aware and Panorama (software) to provide surveys and check-in tools. The LPCSC Wellbeing Survey will be available to LPCSC students in grades 3-12. Please follow the links below to review the survey questions:

Student Competency & Wellbeing (Grades 3-5)

Student Competency & Wellbeing (Grades 6-12)

Students Supports & Environment (Grades 3-5)

Students Supports & Environment (Grades 6-12)

This online survey will be administered from October 6-20, 2025, to help our schools develop a climate and culture where all students feel a sense of belonging, build positive relationships, and feel safe to learn.

In addition to the online survey, students will participate in regular check-in surveys. LPCSC Check-in surveys are available for students in grades 3-12 through Panorama. These surveys will help our school counselors and social workers confidently alert the administration when a student needs social or emotional support.

If you do not want your child to participate in the LPCSC Wellbeing surveys or the Check-In tool, please email Anne Wodetzki at: awodetzki@lpcsc.k12.in.us
