Week 6
September 16 - September 20, 2024
A Message From the Principal
CLASSROOM ASSIGNMENTS
September 13th was norm day. This mean all of our classes and students should be permanently situated in their classes with their teachers for the remainder of the school year, effective Monday the 16th.. We are very fortunate at Multnomah that we did not lose any teachers and are able to continue mostly as we were.
PARENT PORTAL
You did it! I believe we are officially the first school in our network to reach 100% with our Parent Portal registration. Whoo-hoo! We absolutely have the most responsible parents. Thank you for wanting to stay on top of your child's academics and getting registered! We will celebrate our accomplishment on Tuesday! Snow cones for everyone on Tuesday for getting to 100% Parent Portal registration AND getting to our 1st milestone, 25 days of school!
BEYOND THE BELL (After School)
If you are participating in the after school program, remember that while they are NOT a part of Multnomah, they still follow the same rules we hold during the school day.
- No toys and other objects from home.
- No junk food for snacks.
- Practice the 5 B's with peers.
The main office will not be able to answer inquires about the after school program. If you need to know if your application has been accepted and cleared, you have to reach out to Coach Crystal. Coach Crystal's email is crystal.lizardo@lausd.net. If you do not receive a response, the site supervisor is Mary Romero. You can reach her at mary.romero1@lausd.net.
While the main office is 100% about customer service and would love to help you out, because Beyond the Bell is a stand-alone program and not a Multnomah Street Elementary run-program, you have to reach out to them.
FALL FESTIVAL
Did you attend the PAT meeting this past week? The Fall Festival will be on October 18th this year. It will be a community event with games and booths run by parent volunteers. Are you a parent volunteer? Do you have some great and creative ideas to bring to this event? Any sales generated will go towards the student body.
USC NAI Program
Attention ALL 5th Grade Parents
I strongly encourage ALL 5th graders interested to apply, not just first generation college students. If you are a 4th grade parent, there is value in hearing about this program this year so that it's already on your radar for next year. Even for our younger families who just like to plan ahead! There's no harm in getting information.
I have scheduled an in person information session for our students and parents on October 22nd at 3:00-4:00 pm in the MPR. This meeting is catered just to us at Multnomah, so don't miss out on this great personalized opportunity.
Some important dates and information about this year’s recruitment process:
USC-Nai has 4 virtual informational sessions scheduled between September and December.

- March 2025 - Decision letters are sent by mail and email
Fall Catalog Sale Final Week
September 9 - 20
Please support our student body during this final week of sales. After all orders are submitted, we usually get our goods within four weeks. Is there a birthday coming up for someone in your family you might purchase a gift for? Do you need to pre-stock some goodies for the upcoming holidays? This is one of the easiest way to shop AND support our school simultaneously. This year they have made it easy where if you sign up online, you can email and text links to your friends and family to order and add to your account. Top seller can select $200 cash or a Nintendo Switch plus all other prizes accumulated. Thank you Eagle Families for supporting our student body!
If we hit the schoolwide goal of selling $15,000, our top 3 sellers will get to spray silly string on me during a Monday Morning Assembly! Let's do this!
FINAL WEEK!

Hispanic Heritage Month
Monday, September 16th
Celebrate the Hispanic Heritage on Monday by wearing something that represents the country your family identifies with. We are all different and the same. By appreciating our heritage, we can get in touch with our roots and develop a sense of identity and purpose. It is a way of honoring our ancestors, their struggles, and their accomplishments. Embracing our culture can help us feel grounded, assured, and proud of who we are!
25 Days of School
Tuesday, September 17th
We celebrate our first attendance milestone for this year on Tuesday, September 17th by dressing up as our favorite superhero or wearing a superhero shirt. Who's your favorite superhero? Show us on Tuesday.
Students who arrive by 8:00 am will get another Multnomah dollar to add to their savings. Additionally, all in attendance will be getting a snow cone.
Laughter is the Cure
Mr. Sam Silverstein was kind enough to support our Eagles with a donation from "Laughter is the Cure." They delivered 100 backpacks filled with school supplies for our students. All students present in grades 1-4 in our Neighborhood School and selected students from our NS Pre-school, Kinder, and ESM/GM program received a special gift. The students were so excited. You might hear some squealing in the video.
Picture Day
Wednesday September 18th
Dress to Impress on Wednesday, September 18th! We will have our annual Fall pictures on this day. While students are under no obligations to purchase photos, every single student (and staff) will be photographed today as this picture will be used for the students' ID cards as well as yearbook class photo. We are looking for 100% school attendance on Wednesday, September 18th.
School Site Council Elections
Thursday, September 19th
We will follow-up this week with our School Site Council elections. Thank you to everyone who attended the orientation meeting last week. We had a great turn out of parents! Kudos to you for wanting to be involved. Here is our Zoom Link to join our meeting on Thursday the 19th from 2:45-3:45 pm. You can also enter the meeting ID: 993 7190 3694.
Childhood Cancer Awareness Month
Thursday, September 19th
September is also childhood cancer awareness month. Cancer is a horrible thing and it is even worse with it is inflicted upon children. What would it take to find a cure for childhood cancer? Per St. Jude's Children Hospital, "It would take all of us." This September, join us to support the research to discover more effective treatments for the 1 in 285 children diagnosed with cancer in the U.S. You can bring awareness by wearing YELLOW on Thursday.
Earthquake Drill
Friday, September 20th
Every month we are required to hold an earthquake drill. For this month, we will be practicing drop, cover, and hold in class. Students will hear my voice over the intercom telling them there is an earthquake and instructing them to drop, cover, and hold. We will not evacuate for this one. In October, we will as we participate in the Great Shakeout.
