Spring Wellness Day: You're Invited to Host an Activity
For our Spring Wellness Day on April 22nd, we would like to invite community partners and parents to host and lead workshops and/or lunch activities for the Montera community. Workshops are about 45 minutes each. In past years, parents have hosted workshops for yoga, mindfulness, movement, design thinking activities and more.
Workshops can be centered around different topics -- Mental Health, Financial Literacy, Physical Health, and Academic/ Career Development and students get to choose their activities.
If you are not interested in hosting your own activity but would like to volunteer during lunch, we would love to have you come and help supervise the following lunch activities: blender bike, lawn games, wellness wheel, gratitude cards, gratitude wall, and coloring.
Sign-up to host a workshop or lunch activity here: Spring Wellness Day, April 22nd - Sign-up to Host
Hosted Party Alert!
This is one of the parties unveiled at the Benefit Party on March 14, and a few spots are still available!
What are Hosted Parties?
Hosted Parties are fun gatherings organized by Montera parents or caregivers. Hosts plan the event and share the cost, guests purchase tickets to attend, and all proceeds support the Montera PTO. These funds help provide the extra programs that enrich our school community.
Grab a spot, have some fun, and support Montera!
Wine & Cheese Apéro
Looking for the perfect way to connect with your fellow Montera Middle School community? Join us for a Saturday Afternoon Apero! Enjoy good wine, great cheese, and even better company as we bring our Toro families together in support of our school.
iReady Spring Reading Assessment
Spring iReady testing is coming up on April 15th! You should have received your student's winter iReady scores with their report cards in January to track your student's reading growth. If your student is struggling with reading, please consider enrolling them in REACH for free of cost literacy tutoring.
Please encourage your students to read for 30 mins per day at home. If your student doesn't have a routine of reading at home yet, start small with 5-10 mins per day and build from there. Reading at home is essential to cultivating a love for reading and supporting your student's growth as a reader.
For more information about iReady, please watch OUSD's iReady Family meeting recording. If you have any questions about your student's iReady scores or the REACH program, please contact Montera's literacy coach at shaina.patel@ousd.org
Montera Sports
Congrats to our Montera Oakland Athletic League Champions!
Congratulations to the Montera Girls Varsity Soccer team, Girls Varsity Basketball team, and Boys Varsity Basketball team on winning their respective OAL Middle School Championships!
An incredible accomplishment -- bringing home 3 out of the 4 possible championships. Proud of our student-athletes, coaches, and the entire Montera community for this amazing achievement.
Spring Sports
Reminder for spring athletes: Athletic Registration & Physicals Required
All students who have not already done so this year must be registered with the After School Program and have a current physical on file in order to participate in sports. Please complete both steps as soon as possible to ensure your student is eligible for tryouts, practices, and games.

Attendance Reminders
California funds schools through Average Daily Attendance (ADA). This means that every day or period a student is absent or tardy, our school loses funding. Unexcused absences cost our school thousands of dollars each school year. Every minute counts!
Reminders:
AVOID picking up students during lunch - loud speaker announcements during lunch disrupt classes in session.
AVOID picking up students 20-30 minutes before the dismissal bell. This allows students to finish their school day without disruption.
Dismissal is at 1:50 pm on Wednesdays and 3:30 pm on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays.
Remember, school starts at 9:15! Please help your student arrive on time each day and reinforce the importance of showing up to 3rd & 7th period after lunch!
Any absence not verified by phone or email is marked “Unverified” and is considered unexcused.
If you know that your student is going to be absent, please call the main office at 510-879-3211 x1.
If your family is experiencing challenges with daily attendance, we are here to support you. Contact your grade-level principal or Ms. Ida at the number above for assistance.
