Teacher Appreciation Week was A HUGE Success

The first week in May is designated as teacher appreciation week and our community did an amazing job of showing our teachers how much they are truly appreciated. The end of the school year can be a real grind for students AND teachers. Testing is done and EVERYONE is tired. However, there are still several more weeks of school remaining and we need things to keep our students and staff excited. Teacher appreciation week did a great job for our staff. As usual, there was lots of food and treats for all of our campus staff (not just our teachers). A big THANK YOU to all of our PTO's, and local businesses who donated food and gifts.

First Group of Fairfield ISD Teachers Awarded TIA Checks

Wednesday was one of the best days of the year because we were able to award 8 of our teachers with the first TIA checks in the history of Fairfield ISD. The Teacher Incentive Allotment was created to reward outstanding teachers in Texas. Teachers are measured by a combination of their student growth scores and their performance evaluations. In our first year being accepted in the program, our plan started with STAAR tested subjects. We had 6 teachers earn distinctions for their student growth scores last year on STAAR. The State creates three different distinctions that teachers can be in (Recognized, Exemplary, and Masters). School districts and schools within the district fall into slightly different funding amounts for each of these categories. On average, in Fairfield, a Recognized teacher will earn $6,555, a Exemplary teacher will earn $13,111, and a Master teacher will earn $23,851. Once a teacher earns a distinction, they are guaranteed that amount for 5 years (initial, plus next 4), but they can requalify in subsequent years and even go up a level (or two) and requalify for 5 years at THAT level. Overall, we gave out at total of $75,580 to these teachers.

Our Local TIA plan can be adjusted each year and this year our plan includes other core content areas beyond just those who are part of the STAAR testing. We expect to have more teachers qualify next year, and even more the following year.

The following teachers earned distinctions this year:

Shannon Block - 5th Grade Math - Recognized Distinction

Nanceen Hoskins - JH English Language Arts - Recognized Distinction

Jill Schick - 8th Grade Math - Exemplary Distinction

Katie Wade - Biology - Recognized Distinction

Coach Joel Kuehl - Algebra I - Recognized Distinction

Gay Lynn Swan - Algebra I - Recognized Distinction

In addition, we have two teachers who were new to our district this year, but earned distinctions in their previous districts.

Sarah Block - 5th Grade Science - Masters Distinction

Coach Kimberly Vargas - 6th Grade English Language Arts - Recognized Distinction

School Nurse Day

May 6th was National Nurses Day. Fairfield ISD has four great RNs in our district that care for our students. The life of a school nurse in definitely an interesting one. They have mandatory screenings they have to conduct, along with keeping up with required shot records. In between, they take care of lots of other daily things that come up from the over 1,500 students in our district.

A big THANK YOU to

Avery Scott, Fairfield High School

Candice Elliott, Fairfield Junior High

Jana Paul, Fairfield Intermediate School

Amanda Thompson, Fairfield Elementary School

Attendance Incentive Field Trips

Having an overall attendance rate of at least 96% is a district goal of Fairfield ISD. Over the past few years, we have created two attendance incentive field trips for students. One is for Perfect Attendance and the other was for 3 or less absences (98%). In addition, these students can't have any tardies or checkouts (perfect) or must have less than 3 tardies or checkouts for the 3 or less trip.

This year the student who had perfect attendance took a trip to New York, Texas Zipline Adventure. It was the first time that most of the students had ever gone ziplining, which made it even more fun.

Jazz Night a HUGE Success

Friday night in the FHS Auditorium was a great evening of music as FHS Alum Janette Gibson and Dwayne Pugh gave the audience an amazing set of music prior to the Fairfield High School Jazz Band taking the stage for a set of 6 songs and an encore song, where Janette and Dwayne joined the band. A crowd of over 100 was greatly entertained by all of these great musicians.

FFA Officer Elections and End of Year Banquet

On Thursday night, the Fairfield FFA Chapter celebrated the achievements of the chapter for the 2025-26 school year. The annual FFA Banquet also gave to Senior Officers a chance to give their retiring addresses, something I look forward to each year because these speeches are always filled with a lot of emotion as students reflect back on the past years of their involvement in FFA and how much they have grown during that process and the memories they have made. The night concluded with the announcement of the new officers.

Great year Fairfield FFA! We are very proud of you and all of your accomplishments. A special thank you to Mr. Phillip, Mr. Sherman, Ms. Ellis, and Ms. Rash for all that you do to teach and support our students in all of the various activities throughout the year.
