Week 32

Open House
Thank you to all the families who came out. We had a HUGE turn out of about 300 parents on Open House. The rooms were packed! I am glad the students enjoyed the Astrodome so much that they wanted you to experience it too! There were amazing things happening in every classroom. From Ms. G. Gonzalez's kindergarten classroom transformed to showcase plants, life cycles and various habitats to Mrs. Ortega's missions, and Ms. Ramirez' food trucks, exciting things were happening in every corner!
Smarter Balance Kick Off
Monday, April 20th
Parents, this is the beginning of testing season as we work to finish the school year strong!
For our students in grades K–2, they are continuing to work hard to achieve strong end-of-year results in iReady Reading and Math. Students in grades 3–5 are doing the same while also preparing for the SBA (Smarter Balanced Assessment), a nationally recognized test.
Parents, we need your help! Here are a few ways you can support your child:
- Write your scholar a note of encouragement.
- Mark testing dates on your calendar to avoid scheduling appointments that could cause absences or interruptions.
- Make sure your child gets at least 8 hours of sleep each night.
- Ensure your child arrives on time or early on testing days. (Late students may not be able to test that day.)
- Avoid sugary treats in the evening and high-sugar breakfasts in the morning.
- Encourage your child to do their best without adding extra pressure.
Thank you for your continued support!
5th Graders Only
Our 5th graders begin the California State Test for Science this Monday. Let's cheer them on!
Final Call
5th Grade Only
Here’s your final opportunity to showcase your talent and celebrate the Class of 2026!
Please submit a sample of what you plan to perform. It does not need to be perfect as there will be plenty of time to practice between now and showtime. However, I do need to ensure that your performance and music are appropriate for a school setting.
ECO-FEST
Our Environmental Science Magnet teachers are hosting our Annual Eco Fest and this year, we’re taking it up another notch! This event is open to all of our students, regardless to the program of enrollment!
There will be a daily challenge and a daily spirit day, so keep scrolling to find out how to join the fun!
Additionally, students are invited to create an art piece using found objects for our Trash to Art Exhibit. Projects should be turned in by Monday the 20th and will be displayed outside our library garden area.
We are also inviting students to design a runway worthy outfit made from recycled or upcycled materials. Students should wear their outfit to school on Thursday the 23rd. They will have the opportunity to walk the runway and may even win a “Recycling Runway Award.” If the outfit is not comfortable or suitable to wear all day, please send a change of clothes that your child can change into independently.
Some examples! Students can bring a piece of art or sculpture to be displayed at the Trash to Art Exhibit AND students can design some cool clothing or article of clothing to be worn and highlighted at our Recyclable Runway Fashion Show.
Earth Day Shirt Contest
Due: Monday, April 20th
Earth Day is right around the corner! Here’s a chance to teach your students about the importance of the environment conservation while also letting them express their creativity. Your student could have their design printed for an Earth Day t-shirt that we will give out on Eco Fest!
Submissions will be accepted until Monday, April 20th at 3:00 pm. The winning design will be picked by students on Tuesday. The shirts will be in production on Wednesday and ready for distribution on Thursday when you come to our Eco Fest. If there's a production hiccup, they will be distributed the following week. The students like to remind me that "Every day is Earth day!"
Here are some ideas:

Administrative Professional Day
Wednesday, April 22nd
Multnomah is so very blessed to have three of the most amazing front desk staff. During the times I've had to support and help them cover the main office, I'll be the first to tell you it's no easy feat. Phones are ringing. Parents are visiting. Students with referrals. Teachers with questions. They balance all of that and their workload. Let's shower them with ALL the love they deserve on Administrative Professional Day! Bring them a little gift, draw them a picture, or write them a note from your heart! Everything will be appreciated!
