Shark BytesWeekly Community Updates - February 14, 2025

Dear Students and Families,

Today is the last day of the first marking period! Grades will be posted Wednesday February 26th on ParentVUE. At that time, students and families can see a snapshot of how students are doing for this first part of the semester. Students will have the remainder of the semester to change their grades before their final grades are earned in May. If families have any questions about grades, please reach out directly to your students' teacher.

Students and staff have a week-long break next week! We hope students are able to use this time to rest, relax and enjoy time with family and/or friends.

Have a fantastic break and we look forward to seeing students back on February 24th!

Take care,

Maritza Torres

Black History Month Figure Highlight

Before Rosa Parks, Claudette Colvin made history when, at just 15 years old, she refused to give up her seat to a white person on a segregated bus in Montgomery, Alabama, in 1955. Colvin was arrested and became a key figure in the legal challenges to segregation, although her story was overshadowed by Parks' later act of defiance. Colvin was a crucial, though less recognized, part of the Civil Rights Movement and has since spoken about her decision, saying, "I didn't give up my seat because I was tired, but because I felt that I had the right to sit there."

SamTrans Proposed Changes to Route 49

SamTrans wants any Feedback! SamTrans is recommending route 49’s afternoon routing to match routes 10 and 110 and go straight on Manor Dr to Esplanade Ave to avoid the difficult right turn and traffic. 49 will then use Monterey Rd to get back on route on Palmetto Ave (see image below). This change will serve the same bus stops today, so the only effect on students will hopefully be a quicker trip.

Please share any feedback on this google form by Thursday, February 27, 2025 which will be shared to SamTrans. SamTrans plans to implement the change if there is none by August 2025.

If parents or students have any concerns or questions, please email to customerservicesupport@samtrans.com or call SamTrans Customer Service at 1-800-660-4287.
