Message from the Principal
Dear Cougar Cub Families,
We have officially crossed the finish line and completed our first full week of summer break! I hope you have all spent the last few days relaxing, sleeping in, and soaking up some well-deserved downtime.
For those in our community who are heading out on road trips, catching flights, or visiting family, we wish you safe, happy, and memorable travels!
If you happen to swing by the school over the next few weeks, you'll notice some extra hustle and bustle. Our playground is officially under construction! The area will be closed off while we work on these exciting upgrades, and we can't wait for the students to see the finished product when they return.
While summer is a time for rest, it’s also a wonderful opportunity to keep our minds active. To prevent the "summer slide" and keep our students sharp, I highly encourage families to build a little bit of reading and math practice into their weekly routines.
Learning doesn't always have to happen at a desk! Here are two fun, hands-on, real-world games you can play together this week:
For Math: The Grocery Store "Price Is Right"
How to play: On your next shopping trip, give your child a budget or a challenge. Ask them to guess the total cost of 3–4 items before you scan them, or have them estimate the final total. For younger students, simply counting items or practicing skip-counting by twos or fives as you grab produce is a fantastic way to build number sense.
For Reading: Recipe Roommates
How to play: Pick a fun, new recipe to bake or cook together. Have your child act as the "Head Chef" who is responsible for reading the ingredients and step-by-step instructions aloud to you. This builds vocabulary, practices following sequence, and rewards them with a delicious treat at the end!
Thank you all for being such incredible partners in your child's education. Enjoy the sunshine, stay safe, and happy learning!
Warm Regards,
Julissa Fisher
