Interact at Rotary International's Youth Leadership Awards Conference ๐
A few weeks ago, members of the East and West Leyden Interact clubs attended Rotary International's Youth Leadership Awards conference. They traveled to Camp Hope in Wisconsin for a weekend full of team building, leadership development, and meeting new friends. Here is what Danna Altamira had to say: "My experience with RYLA was great! I loved all of the people there. They made sure that everyone was participating but as well as being safe. I really enjoyed the activities that we did. I definitely had an amazing time." You can join Interact by contacting Ms. Theresa Ciupinski at tciupinski@leyden212.org, or support Interact by purchasing popcorn during their fundraiser this week (click on the image to be able to scan the QR code).
๐ง West Leyden Wins the Cupcake Wars! - 10/16 ๐ง
On October 16th, the WSC Student Activities Directors hosted the first student workshop of the year, Cupcake Wars, at York High School. Each school brought a team of 4 students and 24 baked cupcakes. At the competition, the students learned the "secret" theme for decorating (Halloween), received a "secret" ingredient (cookies), and had to demonstrate a certain culinary technique (using a grass piping tip). The cupcakes were judged on their taste, the execution of the culinary technique, the use of the secret ingredient, and their decoration.
It was a very exciting day! West Leyden won 1st place and East Leyden won 2nd place! Congrats to Ms. Anna Szymczak, Ms. Nichole Stockard, and the culinary students who participated (West Team: Allisson Huitron, Isabella Laira Lara Juarez, Lizeth Montiel Romero, and Jasleen Monarrez). Everyone was VERY impressed by the students and Leyden's Culinary Program!
