Schedule Change Requests Accepted from August 18 through August 25!

Hello Arcade families,

Beginning on Tuesday, August 18, students will be able to request schedule changes to their classes. There will be a schedule change request form available in the office for families to fill out, or you can use the link below and print.

Schedule changes will only be considered for the following reasons:

  • A student believes they are in a class that is not at their current skill level
  • A student would like to change their elective class

Schedule changes will NOT be considered for the following:
  • A student wants to change teachers
  • A student wants to switch lunch periods

All schedule change request forms must be submitted by Tuesday, August 25.

We will do our best to adjust as many schedule requests as possible, but we cannot guarantee that your student will receive a new schedule.

If you have any questions regarding schedule changes, please contact Vice Principal Philip Tateishi at philip.tateishi@sanjuan.edu.

Thank you.

SCAN MANAGER SCAN MANAGER

BEGINS ON MONDAY, AUGUST 17! BEGINS ON MONDAY, AUGUST 17!

Scan Manager
zoom_out_map

Arcade uses a tardy tracking system called the Scan Manager program. We find that late arrivals to class were disruptive to the learning environment and students who were late missed valuable minutes of instruction.

Arcade's tardy policy is this: students must be in class, seated, and with their materials when the bell rings. This policy ensures that teachers are able to start class right after the bell has rung and use each instructional minute to the fullest.

Below you will find more in depth information on how the program works.

Here is how Scan Manager works:

  • Parents and guardians receive an immediate notification each time their student is tardy to a class. Parents will receive an email notifying them which period their student was late to, along with the running total of tardies their student has earned for the quarter. (If there is a valid reason for a student arriving late to 1st Period, families can call the office and excuse that tardy.)

  • Scan Manager tracks the student's tardies and automatically assigns consequences based on the number of tardies per quarter. Tardies will reset at the beginning of each new quarter. Here are the consequences for excessive tardies to class:

    • At 4 tardies, the student receives detention

    • At 8 tardies, the student receives community service and parent contact

    • At 10 tardies, the student is on social probation and parent contact

    • At 10+ tardies, A parent meeting is REQUIRED

*We will begin on Monday, August 17, 2026*

If you have any questions regarding the Scan Manager policy, please email Vice Principal Philip Tateishi at philip.tateishi@sanjuan.edu.

Get Cleared Now for Future Chaperone Trips!

As we prepare for the 2026–27 school year, a new state law (Senate Bill 848) requires that volunteers in California schools complete child abuse and mandated reporter training. Volunteers will also need to complete a tuberculosis (TB) risk assessment or test.

If you are a current volunteer with San Juan Unified, you should have received communication regarding the need to indicate if you wish to remain active or not.

It is very important that all current volunteers complete the form, regardless of which option they choose.

Volunteers who indicate they wish to remain active will receive additional information regarding their next steps, including a link to self-register for required child abuse prevention/mandated reporter training. Only volunteers who opt to remain active will receive access to the training materials and instructions for a TB risk assessment/test.

Please note that if you choose to be removed from our volunteer system and later decide to volunteer again, you will be required to complete all applicable volunteer onboarding requirements in effect at that time, including the required annual training and TB risk assessment or test. You may also be asked to pay for the cost of your background check/fingerprinting required again for the application.

Thank you for your continued support and volunteerism. Should you have any questions, please reach out to the volunteer desk via email at volunteer@sanjuan.edu or call (916) 971-7935.

You will also find additional information at www.sanjuan.edu/volunteer.

Appointments are Available Now! Can't Make an Appointment? After-Hours Fingerprint Clinics Available Too!

If you can't make an appointment during regular business hours, there are after-hours fingerprinting clinics at the SJUSD Central Office at 3738 Walnut Ave, Carmichael Ave.

Dates:

  • August 27
  • September 10

Clinics open from 5:00 PM to 6:30 PM.

MOBILE DEVICE POLICY MOBILE DEVICE POLICY

Phones Away. Minds Engaged.

Attention, families and students,

Beginning in the 2026-27 school year, students at elementary, K-8, and middle schools will keep personal mobile devices stored away throughout the school day, including during lunch and passing periods.

The change is designed to support student learning by reducing distractions, increasing engagement and encouraging more face-to-face interactions among students. Research and community feedback show that limiting access to phones and other personal devices during the school day can help students stay focused, participate more fully in school activities, and strengthen connections with their peers.

Students may still bring phones and other personal mobile devices to school. However, devices must remain stored and inaccessible during the school day in accordance with school procedures. Arcade Students will keep phones and other electronic devices in backpacks throughout the day.

Violation 1: Teacher warning*

*After September 1, a teacher warning will no longer be a step, and a student violation will begin at violation 2.

Violation 2: Phone is locked inside the classroom cabinet

  • Referral form filled out

Violation 3: Office referral

Families can continue to contact students through the school office when needed, and students will have access to office support if they need to reach a parent or guardian. School emergency communication procedures will remain unchanged.

Thank you for your partnership as we work together to create a focused, supportive learning environment for all students. For additional information about the district's mobile device expectations, please visit www.sanjuan.edu/mobilepolicy.
