November Reflections

For many, the month of November is a time for families, reflection and gratutitde. This month brings many opportunities for families to engage with the school. We will be having our holiday meal for K-2 families to join their personal children for lunch. There is a restaurant and a skating fundraiser which gives families and students more familiarity with skating while supporting the school for student fieldtrips.

As we reflect on the past two grading periods, we have had many accomplishments to celebrate.

  • Our student attendance has stayed above 95%. Let's try for 96% this grading period!
  • We had many students participate at the Cupstacking Tournament in October and many students placed with ribbons and medals.
  • First grade had a culminating activity celebration where they showcased their learning to parents. Fourth grade has there's coming up on November 6th!
  • Kudos to the Top 3 readers for logging their reading minutes into Beanstack were: Anissa O, Jazmin B and Vaugn R. Keep up the great work!
  • Lots of fun with families at Hispanic Heritage Night and Fall Festival.
  • First Grade won the candy competition and were treated to donuts. THANK YOU for donating candy!

All of the accomplishment shared above would not have been possible without the partnership of teachers and families. Your support is truly appreciated and we can't wait to share this month's festivitites with you! Let's keep reaching for the stars!!

Attendance Matters! Attendance Matters!

Our 26-27 campus goal for school attendance is to be above 95%. Last year we ended at 94%, just one point below our current goal. Attendance and school academics go hand in hand and we encourage students to be at school (unless they are ill). Regular attendance means that students are better able to grasp concepts and is linked to higher grades and better test scores. Attending school consistently helps students build relationships with peers and teachers that contribute to their social skills and emotional well-being.

3rd GRADING PERIOD CHALLENGE

Students who have perfect attendance from November 3rd-December 18th will have their name entered into a drawing for a scooter. Perfect attendance means that they do not miss school during this time frame nor are they signed out early from school.

SEMESTER PERFECT ATTENDANCE

Students who have perfect attendance at the end of each semester, there will be a celebration to recognize those students.

TARDIES

Did you know that every minute of the school day counts? If a student is tardy 5 minutes daily, that can lead to up to 3 days of learning loss. If a student is tardy 15 minutes daily, that is up to 10 days of learning loss a year. Reminder that the instructional day begins at 7:55.

Holiday Music and Make & Take

We will have our very first Holiday Make & Take with a flair of fine arts on December 14th. The evening will be filled with music from students in grades K/1, a story read aloud from the librarian with a holiday Texan flair, holiday art displayed and some family time making ornaments.

Math Facts Math Facts

Has your child been practicing basic math facts at home?

Students who know their math facts are able to quickly and effortlessly recall information and allows students to free up their thinking for higher level math and problem solving. There are numerous ways to practice at home with adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing (see below for grade level).

You can: use a pair of dice, use two playing cards numbered 2-9, use flashcards, and/or use dominoes.

Please note that each student has different needs and this is an approximation of skills they can practice.

K--Addition and subtraction concepts; combinations within 5 and 10

Grade 1--Addition and subtraction facts within 20

Grade 2--Fluent with addition & subtraction facts; building multiplication foundations

Grade 3--Multiplication and division facts; related fact families

Grade 4--Multiplication facts and multiplication/division computation
