Principal's Corner: A Message from Principal Thomas
We are excited to share that we are bringing back a beloved F.Ave tradition! In honor of Georgia Reads on September 22, 2025, our school will host a Book Character Parade on Wednesday, October 8, 2025. Students are invited to dress up as their favorite book character and join in the fun.
Additional details about the time and location/route of the parade will be shared soon. Let's come together to celebrate the joy of reading!

Important Information for Gifted Review!
Each fall semester the gifted review team looks at existing student data to discuss students’ needs and determine if further evaluation for gifted identification is needed. If you are interested in having the team discuss your child’s needs, you may complete a Recommendation for Review Form and turn it in to the Gifted & Talented Specialist at your child’s school before Wednesday, October 1. No additional information is needed.
The Gifted & Talented Specialists for FAVE are Jennifer Broman-Fulks, Edwin Ellis, Stephanie Tolentino, and Charee Waugh. For more detailed information about the review process and to obtain a copy of the Recommendation for Review Form, please contact the Gifted & Talented Specialists for your school at jbroman-fulks@csdecatur.net, edellis@csdecatur.net, stolentino@csdecatur.net, or cwaugh@csdecatur.net or visit the following website: https://www.csdecatur.net/our-district-5f/departments/teaching-and-learning/gifted-and-talented-services (helpful tip: click on Gifted Services FAQs on the left of the website).

CSD Administering BASC-3 BESS in Grades 3-12
From Oct. 6-31, 2025, CSD will administer the Social, Emotional and Behavioral Screening (BASC-3 BESS), a brief screening tool for students in grades 3-12 that helps to identify social, emotional, and behavioral strengths and needs so schools can provide timely support. Screener results help schools strengthen classroom practices, offer small-group or individual support, and partner with families to connect students with resources. Together, we can ensure every child feels safe, seen and supported. Find out more in the Social, Emotional and Behavioral Screening (BASC-3 BESS) FAQ.
Families wishing to opt out must complete the opt-out form by September 19, 2025.

Staff Wellness 🧘🧘
Help Us Create a Zen Space at FAVE!
We are working on creating a relaxing “Zen Space” at FAVE for staff to unwind, reset, and recharge. We are seeking donations of calming items such as massage chairs, tabletop fountains, aromatherapy diffusers, soft lighting, cozy seating, and other items that promote relaxation.
If you have something to donate or would like to contribute, please contact Erica Bacher at ecarlin31@gmail.com. Together, we can create a peaceful space for our school community!
FALL PICNIC: TONIGHT 🍔🍿🍂
Come join us, y'all! The weather looks perfect. The PTO will be hosting our annual Fall Family Festival on the upper AND lower field on September 18th, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. There will be food for purchase (Grindhouse and Madre Garcias in the upper field horseshoe; Kona Ice, DJ and staff marketplace on the lower field). Plus we'll be rolling out our new spirit wear! Bring a blanket, some chairs, and the whole family. We hope to see you there!
ALSO: The F.AVE All-In Committee will be collecting donations of shelf-stable food/personal items (toiletries, etc.) for a local Veterans group (name TBD). Please consider bringing an item to share the joy and abundance of the harvest season with our neighbors in need :) Thank you for your support!
Hispanic Heritage Tasting-Celebremos El Mes de la Herencia Latina & Hispana¡Vamos a comer!
Celebremos El Mes de la Herencia Latina & Hispana¡Vamos a comer!
F.Ave continues our celebration of Latino and Hispanic Heritage with the Annual FAve Flavors. This event will be held Wednesday, October 8th, 2025. In honor of the many unique cultures and cuisines of Latin America and Spain, we would like to offer students a small taste of Latino & Spanish flavors. We are looking for support from F.Ave families to help make this event a big success. If you have culinary skills and an interest in sharing your favorite Latino and Spanish inspired recipes with our students - we would love for any family to participate! Feel free to pair up with a friend, too. We would recommend simple savory and sweet bites similar to dishes such as Dominican Dulce de Leche, Puerto Rican Plantains, Peruvian Bean and Cheese Pupusas, Venezuelan Corn Arepas, Mexican Churros or Conchas, Cuban Arroz con Frijoles, Uruguayan Chajá, Agua de Fresca. Please no chips and salsa or tacos. We are excited to have our families help build F.Ave's tradition of celebrating our students and community ALL YEAR LONG!
Support us by signing up for a dish or to volunteer during the event.
Sign up to host a Pride Porch at Oakhurst Porchfest!
We are hosting Pride Porches @ Porchfest! Every year the PTA/PTO DEI committees collaborate to decorate porches @ Oakhurst Porchfest to help celebrate Atlanta Pride (which is in October) and show support for our LGBTQIA+ families. If you live in the Porchfest area, we need your porch, lawn, or driveway!
The DEI Committees will create craft kits with decorations and will drop off before Porchfest. The host house just needs to set up their activities on a folding table in the lawn, driveway, or porch. If you have a Pride flag, fly it high!
If you would like to be a host house, please sign up below and provide your address (for kit and treat drop off and as a reference for Pride @ Porchfest maps). We also need volunteers to help assemble the kits on Sunday, October 5 @ 1pm. Location TBD depending on weather.
