Updates and Info from Dr. T

Farley Elementary School - November 15, 2024

Updates andInfo from Dr. TFarley Elementary School - November 15, 2024

Greetings!

Hopefully the Fall weather will continue for a few more weeks! At Farley, we will go outside for PE and recess unless the temperature drops into the 30s (or raining), so make sure students arrive with the proper winter gear as the temperatures drop. I would also encourage you to write children's names in jackets as every year we donate sacks of unclaimed coats to charities. The earliest drop off time for school is 7:30AM. Teachers do not report officially until 7:45AM. We do have one employee who donates her time to allow little ones in the front entrance prior to 7:30AM.

Student Led Conferences - 4th & 5th Grade will present a preliminary or practice student led conference to the members of the Huntsville / Madison County Chapter of the Alabama Alpha Delta Kappa Sorority, which is comprised of retired teachers, some of which worked at Farley. Parents may also attend; however, there will be a longer and more fully fledged student led conference opportunity for parents in January 2025.

Attached below is what 4th and 5th Graders will present.

Friday, November 22

Schedule:

4th Grade - 9:00AM

5th Grade - 9:50AM

If you wish for your child to opt out, please email your child's teacher and/or CC DrT

Upcoming Dates

Nov 25-29 - Thanksgiving Holidays

Attendance Attendance

Parents may excuse only 8 days for the entire school year.

Parents - remember that excuse notes must be submitted promptly. The HCS expectation is that within 3 days, a parent or doctor's note is submitted to the school. After 8 excused absences (not individual notes), students must have a doctor's note. A student checked out before 11:30AM is considered absent unless they check back in.

Farley Elementary's Chronic Absenteeism rate is around 6%, which lower than our surrounding schools. However, when schools receive their Report Card scores, 15% of the total grade is based on the percentage of students who are Chronically Absent. We lost one point on our Report Card Grade. I would like to get that point back this year, which means our CA rate needs to be less than 3%.

Chronic Absenteeism is defined as a student missing 18 or more days for the school year, regardless of reason.
