Fun in June!
June has been full of learning and fun! We have gone on many field trips, had field day, and celebrated our 5th grade students as they say farewell to HDES.
Farewell to our 5th graders, we wish you well in middle school!
On Tuesday we held our annual 5th grade parade! It was a lot of fun to see the decorated cars and smilinging faces of the 5th grade students and families!
Field Day!
We had an incredibly busy and fun-filled Field Day!
We kicked off the day with a whole-school assembly filled with excitement and school spirit. The HDES Band got everyone energized by playing pep rally songs that had us ready for the day ahead!
Students and staff then watched a very special torch-passing video, followed by the lighting of the Field Day Flame. We concluded the assembly by coming together to sing the National Anthem before heading out for a day of fun and friendly competition.
Students enjoyed freeze pops, photo booths, face painting, and choosing a new book from the Hillsboro Lions Club through RIF. Excitement filled the day as students participated in activities like Swim Fishy Swim, Sleeping Fish, Beat the Ball, Keep It Up Olleyball, Water Ball Relay, Musical Cups, Cooperation Canal, and the obstacle course.
There were lots of laughs in the splash zone as students got to splash staff and toss balls at them while they wore HUGE pants! Students also had fun running through the sprinkler, playing limbo, and creating with chalk.
A special thank you to Mrs. Rockwell and Ms. Juliano for organizing this memorable Field Day, and to all of the staff and volunteers who ran stations and supported students and staff throughout the day. We appreciate everyone who helped make this such a fun event!
Preschool Field Day!
We marked the end of a wonderful chapter for our youngest learners. We've watched them grow in confidence, curiosity, and kindness, and we couldn't be prouder. Some of you will be back in the fall as kindergartners, ready for new adventures. We are so proud of everyone! To all our families, thank you for sharing your children with us. Wishing everyone a safe, happy, and memory-filled summer.
4th grade!
4th Grade was visited by the New Hampshire Historical Society with the Aenaki Traveling Trunk to learn about the Native Americans and how they lived here in NH.
5th grade goes for icecream!
Our 5th graders enjoyed their annual walking field trip to the Ice Cream Bar, and they had an amazing time! A big thank-you to the Ice Cream Bar for always supporting our school and helping make this tradition so special. We’re grateful for our wonderful community partners!
Chicks in Preschool!
Our preschool students were very excited to watch chicks hatch!
4th graders remember when they were in 1st grade in Art!
4th Graders end the year revisiting a 1st grade project through the lens of 4th grade knowledge and skills. They were pretty adamant this printmaking project exploring radial symmetry in the form of Mandalas, was way more fun in 4th grade than 1st!
Kindergarten and Animal Adventures!
The Kindergarten students were treated by the Animal Adventure's organization. Very interesting animals were brought to school for us to see!

Grade 4 visited the Flume Gorge!
Our 4th graders continued their study of NH history and natural resources with an exciting visit to the Flume Gorge in Lincoln! They learned about erosion and weathering as they explored the stunning natural landscape.
Grade 2 visited the See Science Center!
Students in grade 2 had a great day watching and participating in science experiments at the See Science Center!
Grade 1 visited the Montshire Museum in Vermont!
Our first grade students had a wonderful day exploring the natural world at the Montshire Museum in Vermont! They learned about the animals and plants of New England, experimented with different states of matter, created giant bubbles, and engaged in hands-on discoveries throughout the museum. It was an exciting day of learning, exploration, and scientific curiosity that helped bring classroom lessons to life. We are grateful for this enriching experience and all the opportunities our students had to learn about the world around them!
3rd grade visited the Squam Lakes Science Center!
The third graders had an unforgettable adventure during their recent field trip to the Squam Lakes Science Center. Throughout the day, students were thrilled to get an up-close look at a wide variety of native wildlife in their natural habitats. A major highlight was attending an engaging presentation centered on fascinating animal adaptations and survival skills. The excitement peaked when the group enjoyed a thrillingly close encounter with a live snapping turtle.
Have a safe and happy summer!
See you in August!
