Update from Superintendent Shuldiner
Dear Lansing School District Community,
I hope that this newsletter finds you well. As always, it is a pleasure to email you all.
I hope you all had a great Spring Break and are returning to the district rested, rejuvenated, and ready to go. It is amazing to think that it is already April and that graduation is two months and one day away. Our testing window is upon us, and we are preparing many of our buildings for construction and maintenance during the summer. Additionally, our enrollment period for next year is open, and hundreds of families have already signed up. However, if you or anyone you know has a child who is ready for pre-K or kindergarten or wants to transfer into the Lansing School District, please contact us as soon as possible. So much of our planning during the summer is based on the number of students we have in our classes and grades.
If you are interested in any of our special programs, I urge you to reach out to those schools directly. The principals would be thrilled to set up a tour or visit. I don't want you to take my word for how great our schools are, I want prospective families to see it for themselves. I do want to highlight one specific program for families to think about applying to: Lansing Technical High School.
If you are currently an 8th, 9th, or 10th grader, or you know an 8th , 9th, or 10th grader anywhere in the Mid-Michigan area who might be interested in a career and technical high school, please have them reach out to Lansing Tech. We only have 100 seats per grade, and I don't want any student to miss their opportunity. As a reminder, we have a Culinary Arts program, a Medical Science program, a Computer Science program, and a Construction Science program.
Lansing Technical High School partners with industry professionals to cultivate excellence in EVERY student; whether earning a license, industry credentials, or college credits, we'll ensure they have the academic, technical, and soft skills needed to succeed.
Typically, when we think about enrollment, we think about pre-K and kindergarten, which is why I want to highlight this opportunity today. We are very proud of the work at Lansing Tech and want students to know about this option within the school district.
Thank you so much for all of your incredible support of our district. Together, we will do great things for the children of Lansing.
Benjamin Shuldiner, Superintendent
Lansing School District
Lansing Technical Health Science Students Visit University of Michigan — Sparrow
Lansing Technical High School students recently got a front-row seat to health care careers during a tour of University of Michigan Health — Sparrow. It’s all part of a new partnership to introduce our EMS/Health Sciences students to opportunities that exist for them after graduation.
From radiology to pharmacology, students will gain hands-on experience and inspiration to join the next generation of medical professionals.
It’s more than a field trip—it’s a pathway to the future!

Junior Board Puts Finishing Touches On Plans for This Year's Honors Ceremony
Our Junior Board plays a vital role in the district by empowering our students to actively participate in creating their educational experience. Participation gives students a voice in district policies, initiatives, and decision making processes. The Junior Board's involvement with administration creates a meaningful bridge between our students and administrators and ensures that the perspectives and needs of our young people are heard and valued throughout the school year and beyond.
Each year the Junior Board focuses on several areas of interest. In addition to this year's ongoing mental health awareness initiative the Junior Board has also been hard at work hashing out the details of this year's Honors Banquet. On Friday, they spoke to Jody Taratuta of SodexoMAGIC about dinner options for the celebration. The Honors Banquet will be held at Eastern High School on April 23, and the Junior Board is excited to host such an important event.
You know the assignment — wear green on Monday to support mental health awareness.
There are only NINE Monday's left in the 2024-25 school year to show your support.

What is Here Comes the Bus and why might you need it?
Here Comes the Bus is an easy-to-use website and app that enables you to see the location of your student’s school bus on a smartphone, tablet, or personal computer. You know when the bus is near your stop or has arrived at the school.
How does it work?
Here Comes the Bus uses global positioning system (GPS) technology to locate and track a student’s school bus. It is powered by software from CalAmp. The location of the school bus can be seen on a smartphone, tablet, or personal computer.
How do you sign up?
Access to the application requires a district-specific code (29845), the student’s last name, and student ID*. Only students enrolled in transportation are available in the app.
*You must add “LSD_” to the beginning of your student’s ID during initial sign up. For example, if your student’s ID is 12345, you should enter LSD_12345 into the app.
Is the information private and secure?
Here Comes the Bus uses HTTPS, just like a bank or online store, which means that all communications between your web browser and the site are encrypted and secure.
How much does it cost?
Here Comes the Bus is available at no cost to families and participation is optional.
What is the difference between the app and website to track your student’s school bus?
The main difference is how you access the data. The look and feel are different on the mobile device for on-the-go use. You can use mobile and tablet apps anywhere you can use a mobile device.
What is the Buspass icon in the app and how do I use it?
“Buspass” is an additional service provided by CalAmp; for our families, "Buspass" will be an inactive icon in the app.
Will my student’s Access 411 One Card scans appear in Here Comes The Bus?
Unfortunately, your student’s card scans will not appear in the Here Come The Bus application. Here Comes The Bus is intended to provide school bus tracking only.
What should parents do if they have questions or problems using the app?
The Transportation Department and Transportation Technology Support teams will be happy to answer questions and resolve any issues. Please contact the Transportation Technology Support team at (517) 319-8360 and follow the prompts for Here Comes the Bus support.
