Brief Message From the Principal

Dear Jayhawk Elementary Families,

Cold Weather Reminder – Bundle Up, Jayhawks!

As we move into next week, the forecast for Mound City is calling for chilly mornings with temperatures expected to dip down into the 20s. With this big drop in temperature, we want to remind our families to make sure students come to school dressed warmly. Please send your child with a heavy coat, hat, and gloves so they can stay comfortable and safe during morning arrival and recess times.

We know Kansas weather can change quickly, and we appreciate your help in making sure all of our students are prepared for the colder days ahead!

Safety First at Jayhawk Elementary

At Jayhawk Elementary, student safety is always our top priority. Throughout the school year, we regularly practice safety drills to ensure that both students and staff know exactly what to do in case of an emergency. So far this year, our students have completed two fire drills, one tornado drill, and a classroom hold procedure. Each of these drills serves a specific purpose — fire drills help us practice safe evacuation, tornado drills prepare us for severe weather, and classroom holds allow staff to manage situations safely within the building without disrupting learning.

We want our families to know that these routines are an important part of keeping every Jayhawk safe and prepared. Our students have done an excellent job following directions and taking each drill seriously.

State Assessment Scores:

The state assessment scores from last year have been released and you now have access to see your child's scores on the assessments. Families who selected the opt-in option during enrollment can view their child’s assessment results in the KITE Parent Portal. Attached to this message you will find two helpful documents:

You will be able to access your child's scores through the KITE Parent Portal using the email address you provided in PowerSchool during enrollment. If you need assistance updating or confirming your email in PowerSchool, please contact JES at @ 913-795-2519.

We encourage you to review the enclosed guide before logging in, as it will help you better understand the score reports and what they mean for your child's learning.
