Summer Reading is Heating Up!
We’re halfway through the Summer Reading season, and we are so impressed by our incredible readers! This year has been our biggest yet—with nearly 22% more participants than last summer. So far, our community has logged over 2,257 hours of reading and completed 1,928 weekly challenges—amazing!
There’s still time to join in! Visit the library or sign up online at dplindiana.org.
And don’t forget, adult participants are invited to register for our exclusive end-of-summer celebration at Beasley’s Orchard! Registration is required, and space is limited. You must be an active participant in the 2025 Summer Reading Program to attend, so keep reading and don’t miss out!

Strong Libraries Start With You
Whether you attend programs, check out materials, or simply share your love for the library with others—you’re helping us grow and thrive. We’re so grateful for your continued support, and now, more than ever, we need your help.
Our Friends of the Library group is a small but passionate 501(c)(3) organization that raises funds to support programming and special projects. Many longtime members are preparing to step back from leadership roles, though they remain eager to stay involved in a more relaxed capacity.
With this natural transition and the upcoming arrival of a new Library Director with experience revitalizing similar groups, we’re looking for engaged community members who are excited about championing the library through fundraising, advocacy, and fresh new initiatives.
Interested in seeing what’s possible? Take a look at the inspiring work being done by these organizations:
- Greenwood Library Foundation
- Hussey-Mayfield Library Foundation
- Indianapolis Public Library Foundation
Currently, our Friends of the Library meet the second Wednesday of each month at 10:00 A.M.; however, this time may change to better accommodate schedules. The next meeting is on Wednesday, July 9 at 10:00 A.M. The Annual Meeting, where officers will be nominated and selected will be on Saturday, July 19 at 9:30 A.M. Now is the perfect time to get involved—we’d love to welcome you!

An Archive Highlight
Archive Highlight: The Fisher Family of Pittsboro
Take a glimpse into local history through the Fisher Family Photo Collection, featuring labeled and unlabeled portraits, tintypes, and personal artifacts from one of Pittsboro’s longtime farming families. The Fishers settled in the area in the 1850s and remained active in the community for generations. Highlights include a recipe book made from newspaper clippings and a leather medical case belonging to George Leroy Fisher—farmer, teacher, and grain elevator owner.
