SHS/PGS Principal's Newsletter
October 2026 Edition
Principal's Message:
Dear Parents, Guardians, and Significant Adults,
The school year has been going great, and a lot has been accomplished over the last few weeks. At Sequoia, students got their schedules and classes started for the first term and we will begin our second term October 12th. Over the last week, Sequoia has had an ASB campaign and yesterday students finished voting for our ASB leaders. We’re seeing our community grow and next week we will be welcoming many more new students.
At Port Gardner, we’ve grown so much! We have the largest group of students we’ve had in many years, and we’re excited to grow more over the next semester. Students have hit the ground running in their new classes on campus.
High School Online Options has been serving the Everett community by providing classes for students at all our comprehensive high schools. They’re off to a strong start and meeting with students daily to help them stay on track with their learning.
Last week we had our first “Doughnuts and Coffee with the Principal” event in the cafeteria where we saw a dozen families join in to meet and talk about all the great things that are happening in our district and on our campus. Keep an eye out for more invites to more events each month.
Our PTSA is going strong and had a Clothing Swap in our Gym last week. Now they’re preparing for our first Student Winter MarketPlace on November 6th – these are all the types of events that help us build community on our campus.
Thank you to all the wonderful adults and students who have worked hard to make Sequoia, Port Gardner, and High School Online Options places where our students feel welcome and successful.
Warm Regards,
Pachomius Schmidt

Core Value Champion for Respect
Congratulations Bradley Everetts!
Words about Bradley from Mrs. Bailey:

He has a calm demeanor and always values the opinions of others. He shows respect just by who he is daily at Port Gardner. His bright smile always lights up the room, and his peers enjoy being with him. Thank you, Bradley, for being amazing!
Please Welcome New Teacher, Bryn Loomis to PGS!
Hello Port Gardner families! My name is Ms. Bryn Loomis, and I am excited to join the Port Gardner community. I grew up in the Pacific Northwest and earned my Bachelor's degree from the University of Portland and my Master's degree in Elementary Education from Grand Canyon University. For the past two years, I taught 2nd grade in Bellevue, and I recently moved north and have really enjoyed exploring the area.
One of my favorite parts of teaching is getting to know students and building strong connections with families. I'm excited to become part of the Port Gardner community and support students as they learn, grow, and gain confidence throughout the year.
Outside of school, I enjoy attending sporting events (Go Mariners!), trying new restaurants, and spending time with my three dogs. I look forward to meeting all of you and getting to know your students this year!

Walk FITT, HS Online Options Class Log Pics taken by Students
Course Descriptions:
In Walk FITT 1, students will experience an increase in cardiorespiratory endurance, core strength, and stamina. These life-changing results will occur over a 12-week period of logging daily steps based on a personalized fitness plan which includes body weight movements to help facilitate a comprehensive approach to walking/step fitness along with a weekly increase in steps. Each student will be expected to track steps using their iPhone or Android step app of choice. Weekly log submissions along with Canvas module assignments are required.
In Walk FITT 2, students will develop a personalized fitness plan based on the number of steps they take a day, focused on their personal goals and log activity for 12 weeks. But before they do that, students will dive into the mechanics of muscles and flexibility. Additionally, students will work together with a group online to complete an ongoing project. This course will challenge students to improve their walk fitness. Tracking steps with a pedometer, weekly and consistent logging is required.
