OWL NEWS
VOLUME 13 - FEBRUARY 15, 2026
Owl Families,
Riverside has been buzzing with excitement these past few weeks as all scholars completed their Winter i‑Ready assessments, showing tremendous growth we are so proud of, while our English Language Learners continue to work hard on their OELPA state assessment. Our Middle School Dance was a huge success, filling the night with fun, music, and great memories. Across the building, classrooms have been celebrating with joyful holiday parties and special events that highlight the strong sense of community at Riverside. As February continues, we are proudly honoring Black History Month through meaningful lessons and activities, while also recognizing Heart Health Month by encouraging healthy habits and wellness for all scholars.
We are grateful for your continued partnership,
Ms. Kama-Starr and Mr. Cohen

SPRING MUSIC CONCERT
Hello Riverside community! There has been an update to the Spring concert schedule. Rather than three different concert nights, we are trying something new and having the whole school perform on the same night! Times will look a little bit different and there are many more details to come, but I wanted to notify all families that Thursday, April 30th will be the date for all students.
Just a reminder that this is a mandatory event for all scholars and there is a large grade assigned for the performance. Please send me a message on Class Dojo if you have any questions and please keep your eyes out for additional details to come!
Thank you,
Mr. Paul
SCHOOL CHOICE
The School Choice Portal is officially open. For families who wish to keep their children at Riverside School for the 2026–2027 school year, no action is needed at this time—your enrollment will continue automatically.
However, all Pre-K and 8th grade families must make a choice for their child in the portal. If you have any questions about this process, please don’t hesitate to reach out. We’re here to help!

FROM NURSE UPPERMAN
Families, please remember that if your child is ill, it is best to keep them at home. This is especially important if they are experiencing vomiting, diarrhea, a fever of 100°F or higher, or difficulty breathing normally.
The Mobile Dentist will be returning to Riverside to see the 4th‑grade students who were on a field trip during their previous visit earlier this year.
In addition, Case Western Reserve University junior and senior students will be completing our required State of Ohio vision screenings on Friday, February 20 and Friday, February 27.
A special shout‑out to Mr. Roach for doing an excellent job teaching heart health.
FROM OUR FAMILY AMBASSADOR
Hi Riverside Families!
I hope everyone is staying warm and enjoying all of the "cold days." This is for all parents not actively using the Online Gradebook.
The FACE office has used a plug in to create accounts for all parents that have an active email address on file with the school. Check your emails for an email from Power School or CMSD with instructions on how to access your account and set up the app. Emails were sent out between mid-December and now. If you did not receive an email, I have a list of the usernames and passwords that were created for you. If you do not have an active email address on file, please reach out to Mrs. Davis or Ms. Smith in the office so they can update your students' records. The FACE office will run this Plug In every 2 weeks with any updated email addresses to create accounts. If you have any questions or need assistance, please call/text me at 216-370-3357 or message me on Dojo with your student's name/grade and your phone number.

PTC CORNER
The PTC wants to thank everyone for a successful and fun Family First Night at Buffalo Wild Wings! We hope you were able to enjoy some good food and even better company watching the Cavs win! Please join us in March for our next Family First Night at Chipotle.
Please note our next PTC meeting will take place at Riverside in the cafeteria on Tuesday 2/17 from 6pm-7pm. We would love to see you there! If you have any questions or concerns you are always welcome to chat Mrs. Davis, PTC on DoJo or email us at ptc.riversideowls@gmail.com.
WINTER WEATHER AND OUTDOOR RECESS
With the weather getting colder we want to remind all families that our goal is to get outside for recess everyday, even when it's cold. Please make sure that your PreK-8th graders come prepared to go outside for approximately 20 minutes each day of the week. One thing to note, when the playground is full of snow or ice we need to stay inside. Here's hoping Mother Nature affords us time outside in the New Year!
ATTENDANCE
- Please call the office (216-838-6700) if your child will not be at school or forward all attendance concerns to Ms. Khayla Smith.
- Scholars are tardy after 9:35AM.
- Scholars will not be released early from school without the office receiving communication and consent from a family member by 3:30PM. We also ask that scholars are not picked up between 3:00PM - 4:05PM. This is to support our preparations for dismissal.
- All daily transportation changes need to be communicated via note, call, or ClassDojo message to the main office by 3:30PM. Word of mouth changes from scholars will not be accepted.
