The Call
Sept 15-19, 2025
Dear CPA Families,
This school year, to strengthen safety measures for our students during both arrival and dismissal, we made an internal adjustment to our bell schedule (8:00 a.m. - 2:40 p.m.). The safety of our students is our highest priority, and this change was necessary to help us better manage the increased enrollment, high traffic flow, and multiple modes of transportation on our campus. We recognized that this change created an impact on our instructional time, as well as the duty time of our crossing guards; therefore, we will adhere to the official bell schedule.
As valued partners, we are asking for your continued support in ensuring that these safety measures are upheld daily:
Please follow the directions of our crossing guards at all times.
Avoid parking on the merging lanes and/or blocking the driveways of our neighbors. Tickets by our external partners are being issued accordingly.
Allow school buses to enter and exit the parking lots first to keep the flow of traffic safe and efficient.
Show courtesy and patience while in the parking lot so that all students are visible and can arrive and leave school safely.
Effective Monday, September 15, 2025, we will revert to our official bell schedule of 8:30 am - 3:10 p.m. (Early dismissal time:12:15pm on scheduled days). We will continue to open the doors for students at 8:00 a.m. for breakfast. Our dismissal of students will begin at 3:10 p.m.
We recognize that this adjustment may pose some challenges. Our intent is not to inconvenience families, but rather to build better systems and structures that ensure the well-being of every student in our care, and to adhere to our required instructional time. If there are any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us.
Thank you for your understanding, flexibility, and partnership as we work together to keep our school community safe. We appreciate your support as our CPA scholars and staff continue to lead by Learning, Engaging, Achieving, and Delivering each day and work together to keep our school community safe.
With appreciation,
Nina Lattimore
According to Maryland Department of Health regulations, students must have up-to-date immunizations in order to attend school. Students who are not completely immunized or who have not presented their immunization record will be temporarily admitted to school and given up to 20 calendar days to furnish required documentation. The last day for students to attend school without proof of immunization is Monday, September 15.
Please be advised that if we do not receive proof of the required immunizations by Monday, September 15, your child will be excluded from school starting Tuesday, September 16. That means they will not be allowed to attend until proof of compliance is provided.
You need to contact your child’s healthcare provider to get the missing vaccine(s) or submit an updated compliant immunization record to the Main Office to prevent exclusion. If you cannot get an appointment with your provider in time, you may contact the Prince George’s County Health Department at (301) 583-3300 for assistance.
(For Parents of 7th grade students ONLY) If you have access to a computer, please complete the digital consent form for your child to receive vaccines during school hours.

Student Safety- Arrival & Dismissal
Dear CPA Families,
For the safety of all students, we ask that you refrain from parking on Swan Creek Road and having students exit vehicles to cross the street to enter Colin Powell Academy.
There are three crossing guards on Ft. Washington Rd. CPA staff are responsible for directing buses on Swan Creek Rd. only, not cars. In addition, when parking on Swan Creek you're blocking the homes of our neighbors,
To ensure everyone’s safety and maintain strong community partnerships, please use the designated car rider loop to drop off your child. We realize mornings can be busy, but following this procedure is essential.
Thank you for your cooperation and commitment to student safety.
Early Dismissal Ends At 1pm (Please Adhere To Time)

Happy Birthday To You
We recognize the importance of celebrating birthdays and want to make sure each student feels special on their big day. Families are welcome to celebrate during their child’s (K-5th) lunch time in the cafeteria. Please note:
-
Celebrations should take place only during lunch and not in classrooms.
-
Treats should be provided only for students in your child’s homeroom, not the entire grade.
-
To support students with allergies, we have designated safe spaces in the cafeteria where they can enjoy lunch comfortably.
Thank you for helping us keep celebrations joyful, safe, and manageable for all!
