Dear Coyote Families,

It was another fantastic week at Canyon View Elementary! Thursday, was VAPA day and our students experienced lessons focused on musical pitch and melody. On Friday, our 2nd grade went on a fieldtrip to the Safari Park. Friday evening, PTO hosted hosting Trunk or Treat, which is always so much fun!

We are looking forward to the week ahead! We will be celebrating Red Ribbon Week all week. Mrs. Cedillo and Mrs. K will lead students in a variety of activities to encourage healthy habits. On Friday, we will have our annual Literary Costume Parade. Check out the information below.

Let's Make it a GREAT week!

Warmly,

Erica Edmonston

Fall 2025: Healthy Tech Habits
Teaching children to develop healthy habits with technology is important for their overall physical and mental well-being. A balanced approach to technology helps students thrive both in and out of the classroom.

Families can promote mindful and balanced technology use at home. By establishing these habits early, you help your child build a strong foundation for responsible technology use throughout their life.

Interested in Visiting or Volunteering at Canyon View?

We love our volunteers! To get started, complete the Level 1 Volunteer Application for Canyon View Elementary at bit.ly/CVESVolunteer or click here (includes TB clearance and Megan’s Law check).

Some roles—like coaching, robotics, or working with students unsupervised—require Level 2 clearance. To obtain or renew Level 2 status, complete the Level 1 steps first, then request a Level 2 form from our office and complete fingerprinting at the PUSD District Office.

If you are visiting campus for a short time—such as attending an assembly, performance, class party or meeting—you do not need to register as a volunteer; simply check in at the front office as a visitor.

The event is scheduled for Tuesday, October 21, from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. in the Community Room of the District Office.

Staying physically active isn’t just fun—it supports the release of dopamine in the brain, which helps build resilience, improve focus, and promote emotional well-being. The event aims to connect parents with community resources, explore activities designed for diverse needs, and discover new opportunities for every child to grow and thrive.

15 booths will be featured, showcasing programs in areas such as sports, music and sensory exploration, dance and movement, gymnastics, adaptive play, and personalized fitness etc.

  • Present short, hands-on garden lessons (about 20 minutes) to students.
  • No experience necessary! You don't need to be a garden pro or a certified teacher! We provide the materials.

Important Note on Clearing:
  • All volunteers must be cleared through the school/district system. We'd love to have Level 2 volunteers who are cleared to work independently with groups, but we can happily accommodate Level 1 volunteers as well!

Never Play Music Right Next to the Zoo, written by John Lithgow, illustrated by Leeza Hernandez

Studies show that spending just 15 minutes a day reading aloud to your kids can build knowledge, improve listening skills, strengthen family connections and set students on a path to long-term academic success. It also benefits the adult who does the reading – enhancing memory, boosting confidence and sharpening focus. And best of all, it’s so much fun! Actor and author John Lithgow demonstrates the joy of reading aloud from his picture book, a fanciful, animated celebration of music and the animals that play it.
