Blacklick Bulletin Week of May 19, 2025

A Message from Principal Groves A Message from Principal Groves

Dear Blacklick Families:

I hope you had a great weekend! It is hard to believe that this is our last week of school. Our student's last day of school is this Friday, May 23, 2025. Thank you very much for all of your support this school year! I am incredibly thankful to be working with such a kind, caring, supportive community of students, staff, and families at Blacklick.

School yearbooks will be distributed to students last Friday. Yearbook orders were completed as a part of the photo orders in the fall. If you have questions about your order, please contact Mrs. Lindsey in the front office at lindseyk@gjps.org.

We are looking forward to several special events this week!

Wednesday, May 21: Field Day! See the important reminders about field day listed below.

Friday, May 23: 5th Grade Certificate Ceremony at 9:00 AM

Friday, May 24: 5th Grade Clap Out at 2:15 PM

Fifth grade students will walk the halls of Blacklick one last time while students in grades K-4 cheer them on and wish them well! Parents and family members should report to the front of the building. 5th graders will exit the building through the doors by the 5th grade classrooms. We are excited to celebrate our 5th graders!

I hope you have an amazing summer! Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns at 614-759-5100 or by email at grovesk@gjps.org.

Respectfully,

Kristen Groves

All medications MUST be picked up by an adult by the end of the last day of school (Friday, May 23rd). ALL medications left behind on this date will be disposed of at the end of the day. If you need to make other arrangements for your child’s medication, please contact your school nurse directly.

Please note:

Gahanna-Jefferson Public School (in accordance with Ohio Law) requires that a new medication form be completed each school year. Each medication requires a separate form. Please contact your child’s healthcare provider to have the form(s) completed if your child must have medication available to them during the school day next year. In the fall, all new medication MUST be brought to the school by an adult. For safety reasons, students CANNOT transport medication to/from school. In addition, ALL medication must be correctly labeled and in the original container.

GJPS’s medication policy as well as all medication forms can be read and downloaded from the Gahanna-Jefferson website:

Art in Grade 2

After finishing their Great Wave inspired paintings, 2nd graders are ending the school year working on Romero Britto heart drawings! These happy, colorful and pattern filled artworks have been a delightful way to bring the bright colors of summer into our work!

Music in Grade 2

2nd graders have been learning how to play tubano and djembe drums! These are African style drums that are played with their hands. We are practicing playing the “steady beat” and the “word rhythm” of this chant:

If you see a buckeye in a tree, pick it up and give it to me!”

Library in Grade 2

Second graders did a unit on Anansi the trickster spider in African mythology. We read and listened to several stories about him, recognizing the use of repetition since they were originally shared orally. We also watched Donna Washington, a professional storyteller, to understand how people used to listen to stories.
