Weekly K12 Zone Guide
August 20th

📅 Starting the Year? Here’s Where to Get the Right Help
We’re so excited to welcome families back! As you get set up for the year, here’s something important to know:
👉 If you reply to this newsletter or email me directly, I can only help with K12 Zone questions.
For everything else — like account setup, login issues, school schedules, or materials — the Back-to-School Support Rooms are the fastest way to get answers.
✨ What’s new this year:
Live Zoom support rooms are now open Monday–Friday, 9 AM–5 PM ET.
Visit: K12.com/studenthelp
In the Support Rooms you can:
-
Set up your student or Learning Coach account
-
Track materials and computer shipments
-
Get help navigating the new OLS/Canvas
💡 You’ll be greeted in the main room and directed to a breakout for your issue — whether it’s accounts, shipments, or troubleshooting. Agents are on hand to walk you through, and if needed, a team member can follow up with a direct call for extra help.
More quick-help options are also available at help.k12.com (including live chat, videos, and guides).
We want your start-of-year to be as smooth as possible — and these resources are the best way to get the right help, right away!

The Jungle Orientation Zone is live — a fun, always-open space where students can safely learn the ropes of the K12 Zone.
Inside, they’ll:
-
🌟 Practice moving, chatting, and using tools

🎮 Try games, quizzes, and teleport portals
-
🕺 Unlock emotes and discover hidden surprises
It’s the perfect way to help new and returning students feel confident before jumping into class activities.

🧩 Has Your Student Found the Secret Scavenger Hunt Zone?
Inside the National Zones is a special portal that leads to our Scavenger Hunt Zone — a favorite adventure since it launched last spring.
In this hidden world, your student can:
-
🔍 Explore and solve three different silent scavenger hunts
-
🕹️ Test their observation and problem-solving skills
-
🎁 Unlock exclusive emotes (if they don’t already have them)
The Scavenger Hunt Zone is always open through the portal in the National Zones — making it a fun challenge for both new and returning students.
📍 Next time your student logs in, ask them: “Have you found the Scavenger Hunt portal yet?”
🌟 What’s the K12 Zone All About?
The K12 Zone is your student’s safe, interactive virtual space to connect, create, learn, and play — all within a fully monitored environment led by trained K12 moderators. It’s where friendships grow, creativity sparks, and learning becomes an adventure.
Your student may have access to one or both types of Zones:
-
🏫 School Zones – Exclusive to students at their school (no parent consent required)
-
🌎 National K12 Zones – Open to students nationwide (parent consent required for ages 12 and under)
Some schools offer both options, while others may offer just one or neither. Check with your school to confirm availability.
National K12 Zone Hours:
Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM–9:00 PM ET (school-year schedule)
📌 Important for families:
-
Students 12 or under need verified parent consent to access the National Zone.
-
Most K12-powered schools are opted in, but a few are not:
❌ CASC, DAOF, FLCCA, GWUOHS, IQCA, ISCA, ISOK, LSOA, MEVA, OHVA, OVCA, TVAH, UTVA
⚠️ High school access only: ALVA, CAVA
💡 See the section below for details on giving consent if your student is under 13 and your school participates in the National K12 Zones.

✅ Easier Parent Consent for the K12 National Zone
Because students in the National K12 Zones can interact with K12-powered students from across the country, we require verified parental consent for all children 12 and under. This helps ensure a safe, monitored environment for every participant.
You only need to provide parent consent if:
-
Your child is 12 or under
-
Your school is opted into the K12 National Zone
❌ Not opted in: CASC, DAOF, FLCCA, GWUOHS, IQCA, ISCA, ISOK, LSOA, MEVA, OHVA, OVCA, TVAH, UTVA
⚠️ High school access only: ALVA, CAVA
What’s New:
We’ve made it much simpler for parents to give consent!
-
If you recently enrolled your student, you likely already completed consent during the enrollment process — no further action is needed.
-
If your student was already enrolled and you haven’t yet provided consent, you can do it anytime online in just a few clicks.
How to give consent for existing families:
-
Go to www.consent.k12.com
-
Log in with your K12 enrollment credentials
-
Click My Account > Student Consent
-
Select your student and save changes
Once consent is approved, your child will have timely access to safe, monitored social learning environments in the National K12 Zone.
