The Buzz
Summer Term - 4th June 2026
Message from the Head of School
Dear Parents/Carers,
I hope you all had a restful half term break and enjoyed the hot weather! It was great to see all the children arrive and come through the gates eager to see their friends and teachers. This week, as always, it has been busy and the ‘digiwall’ has been a real highlight.
Digiwall
Thanks to our ‘Sports Premium Grant’ and Miss Pearsons’s organisation, we welcomed the digiwall into HISN this week. This provides the opportunity for our children to climb safely whilst also having lots of fun with their peers. Having spoken to many of them, some of the highlights have been how high they have climbed to pressing the flashing buttons whilst developing resilience and strength when pulling themselves onto the wall. It has also been entertaining seeing certain members of staff also joining in! This has certainly been another fantastic enrichment opportunity for all of our children which we have been excited to share with you. Click here to view our Digiwall gallery.
Sherwood Farm
Nursery and Reception welcomed ‘Sherwood Farm’ into our school today. It is always exciting to see their animals as well as how caring and nurturing a lot of our children are. We have some fabulous photos to share please visit our Little Sherwood Farm gallery.
Finally, just a reminder to ensure that your children bring in their coats this week. With the weather ranging from being sunny to suddenly pouring with rain, it is important that they stay dry when the opportunities arise for them to go outside.
Thank you again for your continued support and I hope you have a restful weekend when it arrives.

Staffing Update
Mrs Newman, our Nursery Assistant, is leaving her role at HISN and her last day will be next Monday, 8th June.
This has been a very difficult decision for her as the Nursery is like her second home. Her work in the Nursery for the last 20 years has been exemplary; working with the youngest children to give them a tremendous start to their schooling and setting them on the path to success.
We will be replacing Mrs Newman on a temporary basis from next Tuesday and we have started the recruitment process to find a replacement.
I am sure you will join me in wishing Mrs Newman well in her future adventures.

Executive Headteacher
Governors' News
School Day Timings Parent Consultation - The Department for Education (DfE) has set an expectation for Key Stage 1 and 2 in mainstream state-funded schools to provide a 32.5-hour week, which equates to 6.5 hours per day. Currently, HJS is compliant with this expectation, but HISN is not, which creates a potential area of concern for future inspections. To bring HISN into compliance, we are proposing new school day timings. We would be grateful if you would read the attached for further information on this proposal. The closing date is tomorrow Friday 5th June.
HPP Parents’ and Carers’ Survey 2026 - Each year the Governors send out a survey for the academic year. We would be grateful if you could take a few minutes to complete the below form to provide your feedback. The closing date for replies is Friday, 12th June.

Aspirations Week
As a successful partnership, we aspire to ensure that all pupils ‘be the best that they can be’ and in doing so provide them with many opportunities as they progress through the schools. We have high expectations for all our students and want them to develop into successful individuals who have a passion for life and learning. That passion is often more powerful when they have clear aspirations and goals for themselves.
During our Aspiration days, we would like to provide all pupils with a chance to reflect on their own goals and, in doing so, raise their awareness of future opportunities.
Parents, we need you!
As part of this process we would like to enlighten the pupils' understanding of the huge variety of careers that are currently available today. For this to be successful, we would like to invite parents in to talk to classes, or groups of children, about their careers, qualifications and what their jobs entail. We envisage that this will be a short presentation which the school will provide a number of suggested talking points. This activity will occur across the 3 days (Wednesday 1st July, Thursday 2nd July and Friday 3rd July) so we hope that parents will be able to give up a short amount of time to support this initiative.
Initially, if you feel that you are able to come into school and share your experiences with some of the children please complete the below form. Please note, the presentation could be at either / or both schools. Following this, a member of the executive leadership team will contact you to discuss next steps.

Year 2
Welcome back! The children have hit the ground running and have had a truly brilliant start to their very final term in Year 2. We have an incredibly busy and exciting few weeks ahead.
We kicked off the term with an amazing physical challenge! The children had the opportunity to use the Digi-wall. Everyone showed fantastic enthusiasm and determination, and most importantly loved every single minute of it.
In maths, we have jumped into a brand-new topic focusing on positioning and direction. The children have been busy mastering the concept of turns (half, quarter, and full turns) and learning how to describe directions using the mathematical vocabulary of clockwise and anti-clockwise. We do still encourage trying to practise time with the children to help them solidify their knowledge in day-to-day aspects.
Also, we have introduced a beautiful new text this term: A River by Marc Martin. We are using this to improve our comprehension skills, practice making thoughtful predictions about the story, and immerse into the text.
We have stepped into the world of computer programming! This term, we are using Scratch Jr to explore the basics of coding. The children are learning how to build simple command blocks to program characters and make them move. Any practising at home is much encouraged. Our geography lessons are taking us on a journey across the world. We are comparing and contrasting different localities, focusing specifically on the similarities and differences between our city of London and the water village of Kampong Ayer in Brunei.
As this is their final term in Key Stage 1, we are officially starting to prepare for our Year 2 Leavers' Assembly! Lines and class poems will be sent home very soon. We would be very grateful for your help at home with practicing and learning these lines once they arrive. Thank you for helping us make this a memorable send-off!

Amazon Wish Lists
Over the last few years families have very kindly contributed gifts to the school via the Amazon wish list. These gifts are always incredibly well received and have made such a difference to the school community and your children.
This Wish List is populated by teachers who have a clear understanding of the additional resources that are needed and what would make the biggest difference. When completing your purchase, please remember to include a gift receipt stating which year group it should go to and who it is from.
If you are able to make a purchase, please follow the links below:
Parking
Reminder to all parents to be considerate to our neighbours when dropping off and collecting your child. Do not park on zig-zag lines, double yellow lines or block neighbours driveways. Parking on zig-zag lines blocks visibility for both drivers and pedestrians, particularly young children who may be harder to see. Please park legally and considerately, and allow extra time to find appropriate parking. Even better – consider walking, cycling or using a park-and-stride location if possible.
