Message from Mrs. Haggerty
Sunday, October 25, 2026
In this newsletter yesterday afternoon, the day for Harvest Day was mistakenly listed as Tuesday. My apologies!
Dear Cedar Lane Families,
Happy Harvest season! As we enter this festive time of year, we are so excited to celebrate with our students and families during our upcoming Harvest Day Parade on Wednesday, October 28th at 10:00 AM.
We invite you to join us on the track to cheer on our students! The SBHS band will be joining us for the festivities. If you plan to attend, please remember to bring a government-issued photo ID to check in at the front office or at the track check-in table prior to the parade. Students are welcome to wear school-appropriate costumes for the parade—please ensure costumes do not include full masks or pretend weapons. Reach out directly to your child's teacher if you have any specific classroom questions.
Please also keep in mind that there will be no school for students on Thursday, October 29th through Tuesday, November 3rd as we end the first quarter and observe student holidays. We hope our students enjoy the extended break to relax and recharge with family!
Thank you for your continued partnership and support in making Cedar Lane such a wonderful community.
With Fierce Lion Pride,
Mrs. Jenn Haggerty
Principal, Cedar Lane ES

Importance of Daily Attendance
Let’s Work Together to Support Strong Student Attendance
As we’ve shared in earlier newsletters, LCPS and the Virginia Department of Education are continuing to emphasize the importance of regular student attendance this year.
At Cedar Lane, we understand that there are many valid and personal reasons why a student might miss school. Please know that we are here to support you in making the best decisions for your child and family. Our goal is simply to keep you informed and work alongside you if attendance becomes a concern.
If a student misses more than 10% of the school year, families will receive a notification from us. This is not meant to alarm, but rather to open the door for conversation and collaboration. One helpful step is to email Mrs. Haggerty directly before any planned trips. While LCPS policy states that many planned absences are considered unexcused, reaching out in advance allows us to help you make informed choices and avoid surprises.
Every day of learning matters, and we truly appreciate your partnership in helping your child stay on track.
Thank you for all you do to support your student and our school community!
