Dear Westfield Families,

Thank you for helping us kick off a wonderful start to the school year! In just one month, we have already accomplished so much. Students have been busy learning the routines and procedures in their new classrooms—an important step that sets expectations for the entire year. During the week of September 15–19, all students in 4K through 5th grade completed benchmark testing. You will soon receive a letter and report showing how your child performed on these assessments. If your child qualifies for additional support, you will also be notified.

Parent-Teacher Conferences will be held on Monday, October 13, 2025, from 1:00–7:00 PM at all schools. This will be a NO SCHOOL day for students. Please log in to your Skyward Family Access account to schedule your child’s 15-minute conference. If you feel more time is needed, reach out directly to your child’s teacher. Since our time is limited, we want to ensure every family has the opportunity to meet with their child’s teacher. If you do not sign up by October 7, a conference time will be assigned for you. If the date or times do not work for your family, please contact your child’s teacher to arrange an alternate meeting time. It is very important that every teacher has the opportunity to connect with families about student progress.

Over the past month, we have been practicing our Emergency Drills. Students have received direct instruction on the following procedures: Hold, Secure, Lockdown, Evacuation, and Shelter. In September, we practiced a Lockdown drill (intruder), an Evacuation drill (fire), and a Shelter drill (tornado). The image included provides more details about each type of drill. Research shows that practicing and mentally preparing for these situations helps students respond more effectively if a real emergency occurs. We appreciate your support in talking with your child about these drills in an age-appropriate way. We know these topics can be difficult to think about, but they are an important part of keeping everyone safe. In October, we will be practicing a Hold drill (medical emergency) and another Evacuation drill (fire). On October 13, while students are not in school, our full emergency systems will be tested.

We appreciate your support as we continue using our new secure entrances this year. When visiting during the school day, you will ring the doorbell to be let into the vestibule area. In most cases, all business can be handled through the service window. If needed, office staff will buzz you into the main office. For morning drop-off, all families should drop students off at the front of the school and allow them to walk to class on their own. To ensure safety, we are limiting the number of visitors walking through the buildings during the school day. If you have a specific concern, please reach out to the building principal.

How can we talk to our children about bullying?

As we strive to build strong connections with all students, we know it’s common to hear the word “bullying” used in many different situations. Because every student’s feelings matter, it’s important that we all understand what bullying truly is—and how it is different from conflict, rudeness, or accidents. I also added the district's policy, for extra clarity.

Red Ribbon Week Oct. 27 - 31

Red Ribbon Week began in 1985 as a tribute to DEA Special Agent Enrique "Kiki" Camarena, who was killed while on assignment in Mexico. Inspired by Camarena's sacrifice, communities across the United States began wearing red ribbons to pledge their commitment to a drug-free lifestyle, leading to the establishment of Red Ribbon Week as the nation's longest-running and largest drug awareness and prevention program.

Students this week will participate in dress up days with themes about being against drugs. Students will also be participating in activities with our counselors about being healthy and making good healthy choices.

Halloween at the Elementary Schools

At all the elementary schools students are allowed to wear a halloween costume for their Halloween parties. Please look for more info from your child's teacher on what that would like like for your child's classroom. Remember please do not send fake weapons to school even if they look fake. No weapons are allowed on school property. Also, keep all the small pieces of your child's costume at home, we would hate for these to get lost. One last thing, please keep the gore to a minimum, this may scare some students, masks will only be allowed to be worn during their classroom parties. Please explain this to your child so they are not upset when we ask them to take the mask off.

After School Care!

If you have not signed your child up for Aftercare here is the link to the Google Registration Form. If you have already signed up there is no need to sign up again. If in an event you no longer need the service please contact the front office. Please remember that there are no buses after the program ends and all students should be picked up by 3:30PM.
