Last Day of School Picnic

Last Day of School - Friday, May 23rd:

Families are invited to our end of the year picnic on Friday, May 23rd! This picnic starts at 11:45am and is located outside around the school (see the map below for our location). Students need to bring their own lunch to the picnic, the cafeteria is closed on the last day of school. Please let me know if this is a problem/hardship for your family and we are more than happy to help your family! Families are welcome to bring lunch as well and eat with their students. Students are welcome to leave school after the picnic but parents MUST SIGN STUDENTS OUT WITH THEIR HOMEROOM TEACHES!! If students need to stay for the rest of the day there will be quiet activities in the classroom and school buses will run as usual. Pets, as much as we love them, are not supposed to be on NRE property during the school day due to legal requirements from the district, so please leave them at home.

The PTO is organizing some last-day-of-school fundraisers! If you're planning to bring lunch to school, please consider ordering from Cuba Cuba, Modern Market, Panda Express, or Tiger Den – a portion of their proceeds will go back to our PTO. Keep an eye out for next week's update, as we might have more restaurant options joining in! Plus, the Kona Ice truck and Tiger Den Boba will be at the picnic to offer the opportunity to purchase refreshing treats to celebrate the end of the year.

Principal Letter Principal Letter

Dear Northridge Families,

What an incredibly full and enriching week it has been here at Northridge! From captivating performances to exciting field trips and heartfelt appreciation, our school has been buzzing with activity and learning.

The 4th grade students brought the beauty and history of our state to life in their remarkable play about Colorado. Their dedication to their roles, whether through spirited singing, energetic dancing, or engaging acting, was truly impressive and a joy to witness. A sincere thank you to the tireless 4th-grade teaching team, Mrs. Bush, and Mrs. Fritz, for guiding their students through this wonderful project. We also extend our gratitude to Mrs. Bush and Mrs. Garin, who thoughtfully enhanced the play with new musical selections and more relevant dialogue, making it a truly special experience for all.

Our youngest learners in kindergarten have been diligently exploring the fascinating world of life cycles this semester. They began by observing the incubation of chicken eggs, patiently awaiting the exciting moment of hatching. Their focus then shifted to the transformative journey of the butterfly, as they watched caterpillars diligently eating and growing in anticipation of forming their chrysalis. We are all eagerly hoping that this magical transformation into beautiful butterflies will occur before the summer break begins – a process that typically takes 7 to 14 days! To further enrich their understanding, the kindergarten classes embarked on a wonderful field trip to the Butterfly Pavilion on Friday, providing them with an up-close preview of the butterflies they are studying.

Our exceptionally supportive PTO once again hosted a fantastic community event this week: Breakfast with Buddies. It was heartwarming to see so many families join us on Friday morning, including many proud grandparents! The delicious spread of donuts, fresh fruit, and breakfast tacos was a hit with everyone. I truly enjoyed the opportunity to connect with so many of you and deeply value these moments that bring our Northridge community together.

This week also marked Teacher Appreciation Week, a time for us to formally recognize the incredible dedication and passion of our NRE teachers. We actually kicked off the celebrations a bit early during our Professional Development day last week, where our teachers enjoyed a delicious catered lunch and a rejuvenating afternoon connecting with nature and each other at the beautiful Hudson Gardens. Throughout this week, we held fun drawings each day as a small token of our immense gratitude, and we have one final surprise planned for our amazing educators this coming Monday! Thank you, families, for the constant support you provide our teachers; it makes a world of difference.

Beyond these school-wide events, there were many other pockets of engaging learning happening throughout the building. Mrs. Bush creatively took her classes outdoors for a vibrant drumming session under the sunshine. Their performance was so captivating that a captivated audience of students at recess spontaneously sat down to enjoy and support their musical peers! The kindergarten classes joyfully celebrated the letter "N" this week, and I couldn't resist sneaking into their classrooms for a quick "nap" alongside them – the resulting giggles when I joined them on the floor were truly infectious! Our K-3 students were also treated to a wonderful performance of Charlotte's Web by Page to Stage, bringing this beloved story to life. Following the performance, Ms. Berke's class engaged in a hands-on activity, forming a yarn web to visually represent the connections and relationships within their classroom. These are just a few snapshots of the rich and varied learning experiences that have filled these final weeks of school!

Finally, as is my tradition, I'd like to share a personal reflection. This week, I was asked about my childhood dream job at age seven and my current dream job. At seven, I was completely captivated by gymnastics, particularly the iconic Mary Lou Retton. I even had a leotard that resembled hers and spent countless hours practicing cartwheels down our hallway. My dad, in his wonderful support, even built me my own balance beam! While a professional gymnastics career wasn't in the cards, the dream was certainly a fun one. My current dream job, beyond the immense privilege of being the principal of Northridge Elementary School, is perhaps a bit unconventional: I'd love to be the person at the ski resorts holding the question mark sign! I know it sounds a little silly, and this is definitely a retirement aspiration (rest assured, I'm not going anywhere anytime soon!). I think it would be such a joy to connect with people from all over the world who come to Colorado to ski, offering assistance, answering questions, and sharing recommendations. And, of course, the incredible bonus would be the opportunity to ski every single day during the winter!

Lastly, with Mother's Day just around the corner, I want to extend a very Happy Mother's Day to all the incredible mothers within our Northridge Elementary community! I sincerely hope you have a wonderful weekend filled with love, laughter, and cherished moments with your loved ones.

Smiles

Erin
