Dear Stewart Elementary Community,

This month, we are taking time to reflect on the many things we are grateful for, and at the top of our list are our incredible students! Every day, they inspire us with their determination, courage, and kindness. They persevere through challenges, step outside their comfort zones to try new things, and show compassion and friendship to those around them. We are so proud of the amazing things they accomplish and the wonderful people they are becoming. Our students truly are SUPERSTARS, and we are so thankful for each and every one of them!

Here are the things you need to know for the week.

  1. We will be participating in a food drive this week for Bountiful Pantry Packs. Please see what your grade level is assigned. If you would like to make a financial donation to the Pantry Pack's you can donate here and put Pantry Packs in the comment. Stewart Elementary General Donation - DSD Give
  2. In accordance with Utah Code 53G-9-207, Stewart Elementary will be receiving body safety and child abuse prevention training on November 9 & 10. We have chosen to use Prevent Child Abuse Utah to provide these grade appropriate trainings.
  3. Help our Stewart Stars by creating a safe, fun and positive playground experience at recess. We are looking for someone to help monitor the playground and help in classrooms for 4.25 hours a day. If interested, please contact Principal Yoho at myoho@dsdmail.net or call the school at 801-402-1850.
  4. If you have any Halloween costumes that your family has outgrown, we are collecting them to give to Title One Schools that have a share closet.
  5. It is that time of year where we are looking for student yearbook cover submissions. Details are below.
  6. Each month the district hosts a Mental Health Series for students and parents. There is also a Mental Health Screening on November 18 for students in preschool - 6th grade. It is open to anyone to sign up. Details are on the flyers below. https://dbhutah.org/screening

Prevent Child Abuse Presentation Prevent Child Abuse Presentation

Dear Parents,

In accordance with Utah Code 53G-9-207, Stewart Elementary will be receiving body safety and child abuse prevention training on November 9 & 10. We have chosen to use Prevent Child Abuse Utah to provide these trainings.

Presentations will take place in each individual classroom, and will teach students how to recognize, resist, and report all forms of child abuse, including physical abuse, emotional abuse, sexual abuse, and neglect. The presentations utilize a combination of instruction, class discussion, books, interactive games, and handouts in order to teach students safety skills.

The curriculum is designed to empower and encourage students to speak up when they feel unsafe and seek out trusted adults with whom they can discuss potential problems. The curriculum is age-appropriate and graduated by grade level. Younger students (K-2) are taught basic concepts that focus on teaching students to listen to their “uh-oh” feeling and seek out help from trusted adults. Older students (3rd-6th) are taught the proper terminology for the different types of abuse, analyze real world cases of child abuse, and explore various strategies for getting help from trusted adults.

Prevent Child Abuse Utah’s curriculum is approved by the Utah State Board of Education

(USBE) and the Utah Department of Health & Human Services (DHHS). Prevent Child Abuse Utah has also been designated as the Primary Provider for Child Abuse Prevention Education in Utah elementary schools.

Parents are invited and encouraged to attend the presentations. To find out what time your student’s class will receive instruction, please contact your school’s main office.

If you have any questions about your child participating in these presentations, please contact your school’s main office or Cassidy Wiser.

Honoring Our Veterans

In recognition of Veterans Day, we invite families to share copies of photographs of loved ones who have served in the armed forces (please do not send original photos). Along with each photo, please include the service member’s name, the student’s name(s) they are related to, the branch of service, and dates of service.

These photos will be mounted on cardstock and displayed outside the cafeteria during the week of Veterans Day. Photos submitted last year have been saved and will be displayed again. If you would like to confirm that your photo will be included or prefer it not be displayed, please contact Julie Hoth.

Photos may be submitted to teachers or placed in the PTA box beginning Monday, October 26, through Friday, November 6th. For questions, please reach out to Julie Hoth at juliehoth15@gmail.com or (801) 725-8766.

Thank you for helping us honor and celebrate our veterans for their service and sacrifice!

October — Kindness Matters

November — Gratitude Matters

There is so much to be thankful for at Stewart! During November, we’ll practice noticing the people and experiences that make a difference in our lives. Students will have opportunities to express appreciation, participate in thankfulness activities, and recognize the community helpers who serve us. A grateful heart helps us Make It Matter!

Way to go, Stewart Stars! A huge THANK YOU to our amazing Stewart families and students for donating pull tabs to the Ronald McDonald House. Ms Yoho had the opportunity to deliver your generous donation, and they were so grateful for your support!

The pull tabs are recycled, and the recycling company matches the donation to help provide meals and other support for families staying at the Ronald McDonald House during difficult times. This kindness truly makes a difference.

Now let’s set a new goal… Can we fill TWO tubs this year? Keep those pull tabs coming, Stewart Stars! Together, we can Make It Matter!
