Principal's Message Principal's Message

Dear Washington Elementary Families,

What an incredible first week of school! Our teachers have been busy welcoming students, building strong classroom communities, establishing routines, and getting to know each child. Our hallways and classrooms have been filled with smiles, high-fives, and plenty of Eagle pride!

Thank you to all the families who joined us for Back-to-School Night. It was wonderful to welcome new families, reconnect with familiar faces, and celebrate the start of a new school year. We appreciate your continued partnership and look forward to an amazing year of learning and growth together.

Reminder: No School—Labor Day

As a reminder, there will be no school on Monday, September 7, in observance of Labor Day. Classes will resume on Tuesday, September 8. Enjoy the long weekend!

Let’s make it a great year—Go Eagles! 🦅

This week, we will hold our first fire drill of the school year. Our Eagles will practice following safety procedures calmly and quickly while showing responsibility and care for one another. Regular drills help everyone feel prepared and know what to do in an emergency. Thank you, Eagles, for helping keep our school safe!

At Washington Elementary, one of the ways we support student success is through regular classroom testing. These assessments are not just “tests”—they are important tools that help teachers measure how students are growing in their learning. The information we collect allows us to see what students already know, where they may need extra support, and how we can adjust instruction to meet their needs.

By working together and using this data, we can ensure every Eagle continues to make steady progress toward their goals. Thank you for encouraging your child to do their best and for partnering with us in their learning journey!

Question of the Week! Question of the Week!

We want to make sure every student feels at home in our school. Each week, we’ll share one quick question to ask your child about their school experience. Tap your answer below—it takes less than a minute and helps us support your kids better every day!

Last week, we asked families how easily their child was settling into the school routine. We received nine responses, ranging from “Very Easily” to “Mostly Well.” Thank you to everyone who shared their feedback!

Has your child made a new friend at school this week?

Oregon Executive Order 25-09 aims to help foster student learning, well-being, and belonging by reducing distractions and promoting healthy, focused school environments. At Washington Elementary our goal is to improve academic outcomes by ensuring students are fully engaged in learning within a distraction-free environment that supports their well-being, focus, and ability to thrive academically and personally.

While students are allowed to have personal electronic devices*, they are restricted to using them only before school and after school. They must be off and away at all other times. Devices must be stored in backpacks or lockers and are not to be stored on students. If you are fearful of theft or loss, please leave the device at home.

*Personal Electronic Devices include any item that can send and receive phone calls, text messages, and access internet/social media. I.E. phones, watches, tablets, etc.
