Principal's Message
Dear Parents and Families,
This is an important week as report cards and Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) results will be coming home with students. These reports provide an opportunity for us to celebrate how much our students have accomplished while also identifying areas where continued growth is needed.
As you review this information with your child, remember that grades and assessment scores are only part of the story. Every child learns and grows at a different pace, and no single grade or test score can fully represent all that a child knows or is capable of achieving.
Report Cards: A Look at Classroom Progress
Report cards provide information about your child's academic performance and progress during the grading period. We encourage you to review the report card together and celebrate successes while also discussing areas that may need additional attention.
Consider asking your child questions such as:
What are you most proud of this nine weeks?
What was challenging for you?
What is one goal you would like to work toward next?
These conversations help children understand that learning is a process and that effort, perseverance, and continued growth are important parts of success.
Understanding MAP Results
Your child's MAP results provide another piece of information that helps us understand his or her academic strengths and areas for growth. MAP assessments help teachers identify what students are ready to learn next and assist us in making instructional decisions based on individual student needs.
While MAP scores are important, we want families to remember that a MAP score does not define your child. Teachers consider multiple sources of information including classroom performance, daily work, assessments, observations, and student growth when making instructional decisions.
Working Together for Student Success
When you receive your child's report card and MAP results, take a moment to celebrate growth before focusing on the areas that still need improvement. Acknowledge hard work, recognize progress, and encourage your child to keep moving forward.
If you have questions about your child's grades, MAP results, or academic progress, please reach out to your child's teacher. We value the partnership between home and school, and we want to work alongside you to help your child be successful.
Most importantly, remind your child that learning isn't about being perfect it's about growing, trying, learning from mistakes, and continuing to move forward.
Thank you for your continued support, encouragement, and partnership. Together, we can help every child recognize their progress, build confidence, and reach their full potential.
Let's celebrate how far they've come and continue working together toward where they're going next!
Warm regards,
Will Zwingmann, Ed.S.
