Principal Notes

Dear CMS Families,

This afternoon we held our first Pep Rally of the Year! It was a great way to end the week! Have a wonderful weekend Colt Nation!

Frequently Asked Questions regarding i-Ready My Path

Now that we have finished our beginning of the year i-Ready Diagnostic testing, our students are starting their personalized instruction in their My Path. We have put together additional information in the form of a My Path FAQ to support families as we partner with you to help all of our students reach their growth goals this year.

Behavior Expectation Updates

Parents,

In an attempt to be proactive, we like to address and head off trends before they get out of control. "Pantsing" (quickly running up behind someone and pulling down their shorts) is not a new trend but it seems to gain new life each year. We have talked to the students about this repeatedly (this year and in the past). Please talk with your child and make sure they understand the severity of this action. We have let the students know that "Pantsing" will not be tolerated and the consequence will be a minimum of 3 Days of In School Suspension moving forward.

Student ID: if students are caught in the hall during the school day without an ID it will result in an automatic lunch detention. Student IDs must be worn and visible at all times. Replacements can be purchased in the front office.

A Note from our Counselors

Preferred Participation Consent for Child Abuse Awareness and Prevention- Opt In Program

As required by federal and state law, we will soon begin presenting a personal safety curriculum to middle school students. GCISD uses the Play It Safe! ® program to teach this curriculum. Play It Safe! ® is a child abuse awareness and prevention program that incorporates age-appropriate scripts and movies to teach children how to reduce the risk of sexual and physical abuse, and sexual assault. It teaches them to recognize potentially abusive behavior, provides the tools to respond to threatening situations, and encourages them to report abuse to a trusted adult. It is presented by The Women’s Center of Tarrant County, Inc. which uses trained volunteers to present the program using videos and scripted discussions at an age-appropriate level.

Play It Safe! ® meets the State and Federal guidelines for curriculum addressing personal safety issues, child sexual abuse and pedophiles. The GCISD School Health Advisory Committee has reviewed and recommended these programs for all GCISD schools.

Our schedule for showing the Play It Safe Curriculum this year is as follows:

6th grade “Sexual Harassment”- November 20st, 2025

6th grade “Survivors of Abuse- March 12th, 2026

7th grade “Healthy Relationships”- October 9th, 2025

7th grade “Can’t Take It Back” - November 6th, 2025

7th grade “Abuse of Power” - February 12th, 2026

The purpose of this personal safety presentation is to provide the students with information and practical skills to reduce their risk of being in dangerous and/or abusive situations. They will learn how to recognize, react to, and report those situations. This one-hour program is presented in an age-appropriate, non-threatening manner through the use of stories, group discussions, and an age-appropriate movie.

We are hosting a parent preview on September 18 at 10:00 AM via Zoom. This presentation will be recorded and posted on the GCISD website for parents to watch at their convenience.

Videos and scripts will be available for parents to preview from 9/12/2023 to 9/30/2032.

The Skyward Family Access Form will be sent out following the Parent Preview, to indicate your preference for your child’s participation in any of the above programs.
