Weekly News
Note from Mrs. Brennan
Dear Centennial families/guardians and community,
What a special week to begin at Centennial Elementary! The turnout for Grands Lunch and Classroom visits was incredible, and we couldn't have hosted all the Grands without the help of our volunteers! There was so much joy in the building, and we really loved having all the special guests this week visit our classrooms and eat lunch with us. We know not everyone was able to make it for this special event. It was especially heartwarming to see Grands and students welcome classmates to join them for an inclusive event for everyone!
Did you know that the proposed $99 million bond, placed on this November's ballot by the Board of Education, would provide funding for key project at Centennial Elementary School? To learn more about the proposed bond, please visit ces.tsd.org/bond.
On the solemn anniversary of 9/11, we remember the innocent lives lost in the tragic events of September 11, 2001. We recall (or have learned of) the pain of the day, and also the extraordinary courage of first responders and the remarkable resilience and compassion shown by communities across the country. The anniversary reminds us of the strength we find in unity and the importance of supporting one another, both in times of crisis and in our daily lives.

Instructional Fees 25/26
An instructional fee of $32 has been applied to your student's fees. The fee can be paid online or in person at Centennial by a check, cash or card. To pay online, please use your parent portal. Please see below for more information on this fee.
The instructional materials fee charged to an elementary school student is based on a combination of the purchase price and normal life expectancy of texts (used in intermediate grades), the actual cost of workbooks (used in primary grades) and consumable materials. The instructional materials fee is charged on a per-student basis and goes into the district’s general fund for distribution to the curriculum budget for text purchases and schools for additional texts, replacement materials or consumable materials.
Fees will be waived for students qualifying for free or reduced-price school meals under the Federal Free or Reduced-Price Meal Program or who have a demonstrated economic hardship. A waiver of fees may be requested from the school principal or designee. Fees will be prorated for students coming on or going off the meal assistance program during the school year.

Attendance
A student's attendance is crucial for their success as a student. Their consistent presence in class provides the teacher with the necessary interaction to assist the student's growth in learning.
We continue to STRIVE FOR 95% weekly positive school attendance!
What if your child had perfect attendance? Or close...let's turn this trend of missing school around
and ensure students are only absent for necessary illnesses or emergency situations.
Excused absences are defined as illness, death in the family, family emergencies, or other special circumstances. Students should not enter schools if they are showing symptoms of illness.
We respectfully request that appointments be scheduled outside of school hours
and that you use days that school is not in session for family activities and vacations.
Please call the Centennial attendance line at 613-5890 to report any absences.
Additionally, there is an auto-dialer that will call you to confirm or inform you that your child is absent on a given day if you do not call in to report the absence.
These phone calls are automatically generated.
Parents are able to enter an absence on their own digitally. Please go here for instructions. Absences are subject for excusal based upon the number of absences accrued.
A change in attendance protocols this year will be seen when a student reaches 10 or more absences. At 10 absences, an in person or virtual meeting will be held between the student's family and building administrator.

Important Dates

Things to do...
Annual Student Registration
Centennial Families,
A parent/guardian in the student’s primary household must review and sign the permission forms for the upcoming school year. The parent/guardian must also review (and update as needed) the student’s household information, emergency contacts, and health information.
Why is it important to do this? This updates ALL of the information for your student(s) allowing us to be able to reach contact persons promptly in the case of emergencies. Also, this signs most of your students' permission forms for next year allowing them to participate in school day activities.
**If you have already done this for the 24-25 school year, or if you are a new family to the district with a registration since January, then you do not need to complete this.
The AFC will show the Attendance Boundary school, IF you have received and accepted a Choice Enrollment seat, please complete the AFC and the registrars will update the enrollment.
Log in to your Campus Parent Portal
- Choose “More” located on the bottom left side of the Campus Parent Home Page
- Choose "Annual Family Check-In"
- Choose "Begin Registration"
The application opens in a new window. Be sure to allow pop-ups in the browser before you begin. Follow the prompts to view and update information as needed. To add a new student, click on “Add New Student” from the Student Tab.
**For address changes, your school will require proof of residency, and will contact you for that when your AFC is processed.
When you have completed the application, Save/Continue and click the Submit button and press Confirm. You will receive an email confirming that your application has been submitted.
If you need assistance with your Campus Parent account, email portal@tsd.org
BUSSING for your STUDENT:
Although Colorado public schools are not mandated to provide transportation services for all students, the Thompson School District Board of Education elects to provide services to eligible riders. Please reference our bus stop locator tool at tsd.org/departments/operations/transportation or contact the Transportation Department for further information on eligibility for transportation services. You can contact us at transportationrouting@tsd.org or our dispatch office at 970-613-5185 with any transportation questions.
We encourage you to contact us as soon as possible with your questions as we experience an increased amount of requests leading into the beginning of the school year. Please know that your needs are important to us and we will respond to your questions as soon as possible.
Health Office Information
If your student requires medication at school, please see the attached forms/links for parents/guardians and the provider to fill out and sign. Once the Action Plan or permission for medication form is completed the health office can accept your student's medication. You are able to bring forms and medication to Back to School Night.
As a reminder, forms are good for one year. Medication needs to be in original pharmacy labeled packaging and is unexpired. Action plans do not need additional medication forms. If your student needs medication outside of the action plan (i.e. ibuprofen, tylenol, benadryl only, ect.) see TSD permission for medication. Please reach out to the health office with any questions or concerns at 970-613-5802.
Heads Up!
Now that school is back in, it is a good time to remind parents to be on the alert for head lice. Head lice is a common childhood condition. All places where children get together are places where head lice can be transferred. Clean hair and home are no guarantee that head lice will not find your child. Please take a moment now and periodically throughout the year, to check your child’s hair for nits (eggs), which can usually be seen long before lice can be located. Nits are small, white to tan particles found in the hair that look a lot like dandruff, except that dandruff is loose and can be brushed from the hair, whereas nits are attached to the hair shaft and cannot be easily removed. Lice are very small (flea sized) and do not like light, so they can be hard to find. If your child is experiencing itching of the scalp or you see something in the hair and are not sure what it is, feel free to stop by the health office and allow us to check.
Sincerely,
School Nurse
School Breakfast and Lunch Information
Dear Parents/Guardians:
For the 2025/26 school year, the Thompson School District will provide access to no-cost meals for all students through the Healthy School Meals for All program.
Research shows students perform better at school when they are not hungry. By providing access to breakfast and lunch for all students at no cost, we better support their learning.
Although all students will receive access to no-cost meals, it's still important for households to provide their income information when requested. Gathering this information allows the Thompson School District to receive the state and federal funding we qualify for. These funds go directly to schools to help cover the cost of meals and support after-school activities and other nutritional programs for students. Plus, qualifying households may be eligible for Summer EBT benefits, receive discounted or waived school fees, class materials, utilities support, and more. Providing household income information ensures you and your school receive all available financial support.
Our school meals follow U.S. Department of Agriculture guidelines for healthy school meals. You can be confident your children are getting quality school meals while saving your family time and money.
