A MESSAGE FROM MR. STROUP
Dear Families,
Can you believe we have already completed our first month of the school year? I want to take a moment to share how tremendously proud I am of our students. Over the past several weeks, they have walked through our doors each morning with positive attitudes, ready minds, and a strong work ethic. Seeing how quickly they settled into their routines and supported one another has made for an extraordinary start to the year.
A major highlight of this past month was our special assembly, "Draw Your Destiny," featuring Mr. Duane Abel, the talented cartoonist behind the cartoon Zed.
Mr. Abel brought incredible energy to our school and delivered an inspiring message that resonated with students and staff alike. Through his artwork and storytelling, he reminded us all about the power of perseverance, the value of hard work, and the absolute importance of literacy. It was a wonderful experience that showed our students how reading and determination can help them achieve their dreams. Be sure to ask your child about their favorite part of Mr. Abel's presentation!
As we keep this great momentum going, we need your help in ensuring our end-of-day routines run safely and efficiently.
If your student needs to take a different method of transportation home on any given day, you must submit an official "Change of Dismissal" form to the main office NO LATER THAN 2:30 PM.
Why this deadline is so important:
When parents show up at dismissal asking to pick up a student who is already scheduled to ride the bus, it creates safety challenges and disrupts the entire dismissal process for teachers, bus drivers, and other families. Submitting transportation changes by 2:30 PM gives our main office time to update logs, notify classroom teachers, and route students correctly before dismissal begins.
We truly appreciate your cooperation and understanding in helping us keep all of our students safe and accounted for each afternoon.
Thank you for your continued partnership, enthusiasm, and support. Let’s make this upcoming month just as bright and productive as our first!
Warmly,
Mr. Erin Stroup

Important Health Updates from Mrs. Seefried
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Just as a reminder, please take a moment to review the district’s policies and procedures regarding your child’s health.
If your child requires medication to be given during the school day, it is the policy of the LMTSD that:
-All medications to be administered must be brought to school by the parent/ guardian.
-All medications to be administered must be in the original container and prescription medication must be in the container with the prescription label attached, indicating dosage and dispensing information (https://www.boarddocs.com)
If your child has a fever of 100.4 or above, has vomited or has diarrhea he/she should not come to school. Your child may return to school when he/she has been fever free for 24 hours without medication, or has not vomited or had diarrhea for 24 hours.
Please refer to the Student Handbook for information regarding reporting student illness and documentation from a physician for absences.
If your child requires to stay in for recess for a medical reason, a doctor’s note must be provided. The note should include the reason and the specific dates he/she is required to not participate in recess.
If possible, please provide an extra set of clothing to keep in your child’s backpack/locker for emergencies.
Please remember to check your child’s head periodically for lice. Screening by parents on a regular basis allows for early detection.
If your child is in 6th Grade, and you have not provided a completed Physical Form, please do so as soon as possible.
Thank you for your help and cooperation.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Sharon Seefried RN, CSN sseefried@lmtsd.org

Talking Points
This is a reminder that Lower Moreland will utilize the Talking Points platform again this year. This will allow families to communicate with the district using whichever language they are the most comfortable with! You will receive communications via text message, however the experience is even better if you use the app, available for all platforms!
Cafeteria Reminder
Lunch menus are posted on a new interactive website, Nutrislice. Our innovative and interactive site and mobile app make our school menus more convenient and informative than ever before! Download the Nutrislice App from the App Store or get it on Google Play and search Lower Moreland.
Friendly reminder that the universal free lunch has ended, however free breakfast will be continuing! Students that would like a free breakfast in the morning will walk straight to the cafeteria upon arrival. Students can eat breakfast in the cafeteria and granola bars, muffins, and cereal bars are also available if your student would like to save their breakfast for snack time.
Additionally, for the 2024-2025 school year, all students who are designated to receive “reduced” meals, will also be automatically qualified for free meals. There will be no reduced prices charged for the 2024-2025 school year.
The District is strongly encouraging families to fill out the Free and Reduced Applications if you believe your family will qualify. Information on income qualifications and paper applications can be found at : https://www.lmtsd.org/services/food-services-cafeteria-information

Banned Books Week (October 4-10)
Books have sometimes been challenged or removed because of differing viewpoints, or concerns about content. While families should always guide their own children’s reading choices, it’s equally important that libraries remain places where diverse stories and perspectives are available. Intellectual freedom matters for children. When we trust students with age-appropriate choices, they’re empowered to begin developing critical thinking faculities—learning to ask questions, evaluate ideas, and form their own opinions. These are not just academic skills; they are life skills!
At Murray Avenue, we're proud to host a library collection that reflects many voices and experiences. We encourage families to talk together about reading choices, ask questions, and explore books side by side. During Banned Books Week, we invite you to celebrate the power of reading—because every child deserves the opportunity to discover, think, and decide for themselves.
Book Fair Save the Date
The Murray Avenue School Book Fair is back! It will run from Monday, November 2 through Friday, November 13.
November 2 is also our evening fair, when the book fair will be open straight on through from 3pm to 7pm.
