Deer Winningest Coach in Burgettstown Athletics History
Girls' Varsity Softball Head Coach Mark Deer broke the all-time time record for most wins as a Burgettstown head coach in a career, in any of our sports.
The team's 5-0 victory over OLSH on April 9 gave Coach Deer 371 career wins over 31 seasons. This record encompasses all sports in our school, not just softball.
Coach Deer has led his teams to 12 Section Championships, 4 Final Four appearances and 3 WPIAL Championship Games.
Congratulations, Coach Deer!

Wellness Day: Recharged and Ready for PSSAs!
Our middle school students took some time this week to recharge and refocus during a special Wellness Day ahead of the upcoming PSSA exams. Students enjoyed time outdoors, connecting with friends and engaging in creative activities like sidewalk chalk art, games, and movement-based fun. T
The day provided a great opportunity to reduce stress, build positive energy, and reinforce the importance of balance and well-being. Weโre proud of how our students embraced the experience and are confident they are feeling refreshed and ready to do their best in the days ahead!
Underground Teacher Spirit Week: Bringing the Fun to BMHS
This past week Burgettstown MSHS staff participated in a fun-filled โUnderground Teacher Spirit Week,โ featuring themed days like Teacher Twin Day and Dress Like a Student. The creativity, teamwork, and smiles were on full display!

First Grade Field Trip to the Aviary
Our BAEC first graders spread their wings on a field trip to the National Aviary this week. Learning, exploring, and making unforgettable memories in Pittsburgh. It was certainly a day to remember.
In Mrs. Tasz's Classroom...
Future engineers were at work in Mrs. Tasz's classroom this week. Her second grade students stepped into the role of designers, interviewing Mrs. Baker's kindergarten students to gather ideas, details and dream features of "the perfect toy." They then used processes outlined in the OpenSciEd STEELS-based curriculum to ask questions, listen carefully, and plan their creations like real scientists and engineers.
In Dr. Leap's Classroom...
The integration of the OpenSciEd STEELS based science curriculum was on full display in Dr. Leap's classroom this week as her second graders moved into phase two of their engineering unit. The designed their own toys by carefully thinking about properties, drawing detailed models, and bringing the ideas to life in the form of a prototype using cardboard tape, and glue guns. Hard at work and full of creativity, these students are well on their way to possibly becoming the next generation of designers!
Learning Through Play at the Neighborhood North Museum!
Our high school preschool class recently enjoyed a field trip to the Neighborhood North Museum alongside their preschool students. The visit provided a hands-on, interactive learning experience where students explored creative play spaces, engaged in imaginative activities, and strengthened their understanding of early childhood development. This authentic, real-world opportunity allowed our high school students to apply what theyโve learned in the classroom while supporting and guiding their younger learnersโmaking it a meaningful and memorable experience for all involved!

Electronic Ticketing for Burgettstown Athletics!
This year, the Burgettstown Athletic Department is introducing digital ticketing for regular season football, volleyball, girls and boys basketball, and wrestling. Though all fans may still purchase a ticket "at the gate," but those who wish to avoid lines and pre-purchase an electronic ticket may do so by accessing the digital ticketing feature on the Hudl Fan page. Single game regular season tickets for both students and adults are available. Also, for those who know that will likely attend all games in a particular season, a season pass can be purchased. Please note: there is a processing fee, per ticket. This fee does not go to the school district, it is a vendor fee in support of the electronic ticketing feature. Scan the QR code or the button below to access the Hudl Fan page.
A reminder...
A Note about Commencement for the Class of 2026
Our school community has embraced the uniqueness of conducting commencement exercises at Star Lake for decades. The various management groups throughout the years have supported this by donating the use of the facility and we are most appreciative. While it is early in the school year, we want to make note that in order to hold graduation at Star Lake, flexibility in planning is necessary. Believe it or not, the planning for the next year begins shortly after the school year ends. We notify Star Lake management of our desired date and it is recorded as a preferred date. There are no guarantees, and in the past several years, we have not been able to finalize the date until some point in April. We know this causes a bit of anxiousness on the part of our seniors and their families, but if we want to continue this fine tradition, we must remain flexible. After last year's Commencement, we informed the management at Star Lake that our preferred date for this year's Commencement is June 5, 2026. While this is our preferred date, there is no guarantee that we will get it. As the months go by this year, the District will remain in contact with Star Lake management. When we know the confirmed date, we will communicate it to our students and families. Though graduation may be the last thing on anyone's mind this early in the school year, we wanted to communicate this information so there are no misunderstandings.
