Safety 1st Conference-School Safety Summit "Keeping Schools Safe"

Providing a safe and secure school environment for our children and staff has become increasingly complex. Superintendents, school police chiefs, directors, staff and leadership face unprecedented social changes, potential targeted acts of violence, pandemic issues and catastrophic events in our nation’s schools. In this one-day national safety summit, Region 10 is bringing together some of the country’s most experienced school safety experts to discuss multiple topics on this subject.

Dr. Leigh Wall, former Santa Fe ISD Superintendent, will open the day with an overview of the tragic event that unfolded in her district. She will offer insight into the complexity of events surrounding an emergency in order to better equip school leadership. This information is essential to the mission of providing the safest environment for our schools. Retired Dallas ISD Police Chief Craig Miller will talk about what happens when the bell rings and a crisis occurs on a campus. Frank Kitzerow, retired Palm Beach County, Florida Police Chief is the National Association of Campus Police Chief’s President. He will address the essential partnership between school police and mental health professionals. Special agents from the FBI will discuss active shootings and provide information from a national level perspective. This event will close with a town hall meeting session with leaders from Region 10. It will be moderated by Melanie Moss with TASB Risk Management. Raptor Technologies, our event sponsor, will provide Grab-N-Go breakfast & Lunch for all attendees.
