Rocky Point Weekly Update
January 5th-9th
Hello Rocky Point Families
We hope that everyone had a relaxing and enjoyable winter break as well as a great start to the new year! We are looking forward to students returning on Tuesday, January 6 to kick off our second semester of the 2025-2026 school year. Be on the look out for the second nine weeks and first semester report cards that will be coming home with students on Tuesday, January 13th. Report cards will also be viewable via the parent portal in Infinite Campus beginning January 13th.
We are looking forward to a great first week of the second semester!
Parent Teacher Organization Appreciation (PTO)
Our sincere appreciation for all the support of our parent teacher organization initiatives during the month of December. All events were successful and all funds raised are consistently used to support our students and staff. If you still have not returned your Attractions book, please do so this week! Please join us for the January PTO meeting on Wednesday, January 7th @ 5:00pm at RPE in Room 10.
Science Fair Results
Science Fair Results
As you are all aware, our students completed Science Fair projects in December. The Kindergarten through 2nd grade superlative winners were:
Mrs Bassano’s Kindergarten Class: Best Question - Why do heavy boats float?
Mrs. Kreitzer’s class: Best Data Collection with their project titled “Expanding Gummy Bears”
Mrs. Chancellor’s Class: Best Explanation with their project titled “Ice Melt Race”
For our student groups in grades 3-5, the following students are advancing to the district competition on January 15 from 3:30 - 6:45pm:
1st place with the project titled “Hot Chocolate” by Lucio, Kendall and Logan
2nd place with the project titled “Milk and Cookies” by Yetzi, Brooklyn and Hannah
3rd place with the project titled “Ramps” by Adalynn, Kyler and Stokely
Unfortunately, we are only able to send three students/groups to the district competition, however we would like to recognize an additional group:
Honorable Mention: “Oxidizing Apples” by Aynzlea, Jorge, Kayla and Yoselyn.
Middle of Year District and State Assessments - Beginning Wednesday, January 7
As we have approached the middle of the school year, it is time for students in all grade levels to participate in mandatory state and district assessments. Please ensure your child gets enough rest in order to be alert for instruction during this second semester as well as be well rested to perform their best on these assessments. We recognize that our attendance in December dropped below our 95% goal due to illnesses. We are confident that we can achieve our 95% goal for the five remaining months of school just as we did in September and October!
January School Improvement Meeting - Wednesday, January 21
Ronald McDonald Pop Tab Challenge Continues.
Our can pop tab challenge is continuing as we head into the second semester. Please consider saving pop tabs and sending them in with your child as a part of a community service project in which our school is collecting pop tabs from cans for the remainder of the school year to donate to the Ronald McDonald House. Collecting can pop tabs supports the operating costs of providing a home away from home for families with sick children. Please begin collecting and sending in tabs from soda, food and pet food cans! Let’s work together to collect as many pop tabs as possible!
Million Minute Reading Challenge & Homework Expectations
Our reading challenge at RPE in conjunction with the PCS Million Minute Reading Challenge is ongoing. Please make sure your child is reading for at least 15 minutes each night and that you are completing your child’s paper reading log each night. We would like to recognize Peyton Gore and Octavio Delgado Campos for being our top readers with the most minutes logged during the first semester.
Freckle
Please also continue to support students in completing their adaptive practice in their online Freckle program on their Chromebooks throughout the week. Please support your child in completing a total of 45 minutes at home each week in math for grades 2-5 and in reading for grades 3-5. Help guides are linked below:
