Celebrating the Indy 500
On Wednesday, May 22, the Indianapolis 500 is bringing Community Day to Central. To prepare for this exciting visit, we will be learning about the history of the track and race that is held here in Indianapolis every year.
On Tuesday, May 21 we will be having our very 1st Firsty 500. This is a home project! At home, your child, with the help of family, will build a cardboard racecar to "race" at school. You may have any theme you want, as long as it is school appropriate. You can find racecar ideas by clicking on the button below.
Bus restrictions will not allow the cars to be brought to school on the bus. Cars will need to be dropped off at Central during school hours on Friday, May 18 & Monday, May 20. Make sure your child's name is on the car.
Things to work on at home, to help your child be successful at school:
- Staying seated for 20-30 minute lengths of time for learning.
- Tying shoes, please double knot shoe laces for students who cannot tie their own shoes.
- Fastening belts, if your child cannot do this independently, they don't have to wear one.
- Fastening clothing: snap, button, zip.
- Help your child blow their nose - not just clean off a runny nose.
Reminders:
- Label everything your child brings to school - jacket, lunch box, backpack, water bottle, etc.
- Hooded jackets/sweaters/sweatshirts are not allowed to be worn in the classroom. If your child gets cold easily, send a hoodless sweater or sweatshirt with them.
- The school day is 8:00-3:00. Please be to school on time.
- Breakfast is served 8:00-8:15. Classroom instruction starts promptly at 8:15 each day. Your child is tardy when they arrive at school after 8:15.
- Attendance: Call the office if your child will be absent or arrive late to school.
- Transportation: Call the office before 2 pm to make changes to same day transportation.
- Students are responsible for missed work due to absence. When your child is not at school, missed work will be sent home for completion.
This week's learning:
- In phonics,
- In writing, we will make connections between our text and our real lives. Writing about how we felt when we tried something new.
- In reading, we will read Jabari Jumps, the story of a boy and how he feels when trying something new.
